Portable Solar

I see that many have set up portable solar panels.

Our amp hour consumption is very low. The most is the occasional water pump and perhaps the vent fan over the bed.

I'm going to start with 100 w panels and a 20 amp control. (Renogy)

The panels I am going to buy come with alligator clamps for the battery.

Is that all there is to it?

Is there any risk to the house battery or charging system if the panels are clipped to the battery in place? The manual shows a stand alone battery with nothing else connected.

I read that I should connect to the battery first and then to the panels.

I'm sure there are other tips and tricks I should be aware of.

Bruce

Most (perhaps all...) of the solar suitcase will have the controller already in place.
Just clamp up, and drink in the sunshine!

I wouldn't drive down the road with wires clipped to the batteries. But clipping them on once you reach your campsite should be fine. Remember to respect polarity.

Yep, that would suck. Dragging the panels like cans on the back of “Just Married”
