Remodeling my new `22 Hurricane

Bought a new `22 Hurricane 31C knowing a remodel was in the future. You may question why we bought this model knowing we didn't like it is a valid question. My answer is we mostly liked it and the price we got was a huge incentive. This was on the lot the longest and they wanted to get it sold. I knew I wanted the new 7.3 V8 and not the old V10 chassis so there wasn't much on the used market for that. We didn't want anything massively long and were trying to stay under 35 ft. I tow either a F150 or a trailer full of ATV's so less RV weight = better performance and mileage when towing. So we bought it and used it for about 6 months to get an idea of what we really wanted to do.

We didn't like the dinette of the jackknife sofa configuration. Also there was some water damage on the slim cabinet behind the sofa that needed repairs. Thor approved the warranty claim & sent the parts but we won't need it done now.

here's the original layout

here's what we replaced the dinette with

Now under the sofa was a hot mess. The fresh water tank was installed there and after removing we found the source of the water leak. The PVC drain fitting wasn't glued together and the water fill wasn't clamped properly. There were metal shavings under the tank that also rusted. A new tank is being installed directly under the floor in the 6" high passthrough. The biggest bummer is finding the fresh water feed into the RV was in the middle of the floor. I'm still deciding if I'm replacing the flooring or getting an access plate to flush mount over the huge hole.

I'm installing an electric tv lift and cabinet, this will give us a lot more floor space in both travel and camping modes. It's just 3 of us so the seating works and we typically only used the dinette area for storage.

Cabinet going in

I also did a couple of videos of the project if you would like more details

Very nice and good idea making it yours now instead of living with it for years waiting for stuff to wear out. Enjoy!

The only thing different I would have done is add a fire place. Great job.

WOW what a difference
water tank "STUFF" never ceases to surprise me.
my tuscany had similar LEAKS from same fittings and it was in the basement.

i would think a piece of flooring salvaged from an unused space could be grafted in the hole. talk to a floor person maybe they have hints

looks very good

Thanks, that was in the original plans but decided I don't trust the electrical to support that current draw. Not for now at least.

I have a dummy floor outlet cover plate I may use, honestly didn't think about a dummy vent. That's a great idea. I had to run that line directly down into the basement so I want to keep a way to access rhe fittings.
