Removable steering wheel?

I'm just curious. Does the E450 stripped chassis used for Axis and Vegas have an air bag in the steering wheel? If not, could the steering wheel be replaced with a NASCAR type removable steering wheel which would facilitate rotating the driver's chair?

It sure looks to be big enough to hold one...

It sure looks big enough but I don't see "air bag" embossed on it (maybe Ford doesn't do that). On a class C, the whole cab is there with the front bumper that has sensors for air bags. The stripped chassis doesn't come with a bumper and presumably Thor doesn't add them into the fiberglass front of class As.

That's an idea: get under the bumper, and look for sensors.
No sensors: no airbags.

Not sure what options you would have with the Nascar wheel, but wonder if you would be giving up all the additional button functions for the smaller wheel and the cost of a rotational base? As for the airbag, I would think your owners manual would provide all the details on where your airbags are located. Also wonder if you even got another wheel if it would not throw a computer error code by changing it. Some investigation would seem to be in order. Hope you get good answers to meet your needs.

Finally checked my "owner's manual" and there is no mention of air bags. I used quote marks because other than "Thor" on the cover, there isn't anything specific to Thor motorhomes and definitely nothing specific to Axis/Vegas. Mostly consists of "if this exists, it might look like this . . ." Thankfully we have Ed Felker's manual.

I think you hit it on the head. Air bag bumper activators have to go through rigorous testing to meet DOT standards. Since it's not a Ford bumper I doubt Thor put forth the effort to certify any Class A to DOT air bag standards.
