Remove 2nd Black Tank Valve

My coach has two black tank valves that must be opened to empty the tank. One is on the passenger side below the tank, and another is on the driver side near the sewer / grey water dump pipe. I'm considering eliminating the passenger side valve, because it is prone to damage and failure. Has anyone done this, and what would be the "downside" of such a modification?

Bad idea... :
That valve keeps the crossover tube from packing with last night's dinner...
You'd end up with epic clogging problems.

Gee! You think they put one on the passenger side for a reason (or 2 or 3)?

As Bob said, bad idea. It is a PITA to have to deal with 2 valves when dumping, but that's the price to pay for a floor plan which puts the black tank on the passenger side of the coach.

For the record: I had the same setup on my Outlaw 29H.

Or you could eliminate the valve on the driver’s side and use either a cable or pushrod on the remaining, now remote valve. Or you could put an electric valve on it. However your concern seems not to be the inconvenience of two valves but the possibility of damaging the remote one. In any case, I wouldn’t eliminate the one at the tank for the reasons Bob mentioned.

The other reason for the black tank valve on the passenger side is that if you should hit/damage the crossover line while driving and it is not shut off at the tank, your black tank can leak out onto the highway. It also creates more of a push to clean out the black tank when dumping. I would not remove it.

I've got the same valve on my 2018 Axis 25.3. Got a quote to replace with a cable valve. $900 was a bit too much to swallow.

Amazon has the cable style for $60 and the electric valve for $130....

They just bolt on so there shouldn’t be much labor charge - or it’d be an easy DIY upgrade. My coach (SOB) has a street side bathroom but only one valve. It’s on the side of the tank and is operated by a pushrod from the wet bay. Best of both worlds - just one valve and on the side so safe from damage. Only downside is that the tank drains the last little bit more slowly than having a bottom outlet.

Mine is complicated because Thor didn't build it per the schematics. The 2nd valve should be up against the tank.. instead it's between the 1st 90 and a 45. It's all glued joints so I have to cut it at the long transverse pipe and replace 2 45s, 1 90, valve, and misc short pieces.

Too much work at my age and level of disability. So it's point and pay.

Using the two rule metaphor…

Rule 1: post #2 is the answer
Rule 2: Refer to Rule 1

I could add a Rule 3 that has post #3 as right but it is redundant with Rule 1.

Two valves to control “number two” are a wonderful thing.

the valve is there to protect the public from damage and frailer and unwanted discharge.
