To 12v batteries or 24v batteries, this is a question.

In the process of designing 1,200w system for my motorhome
I already decided to use 24v battery system.
Should I use 24v batteries in parallel connection or use 12v batteries series & parallel connections to construct the 24v system? does it make any difference at all either way?
All lithium batteries are identical and will be purchase same time.

Any pro and cons?
Please advise.

Thanks!

Are you changing all electric components to 24 volt as well?

Also, are you planning on removing the BIRD and emergency start so there is no connection between the house side and chassis side of the electrical systems?

No, I am thinking about using 24v to 12v DC converter.
There is also a 12v to 24v DC convert to charge the battery...

Going to 24 volts will save a little on the solar controller and a little in wire size, but will cost a lot for a 24 volt x 12 volt charger. I wouldn't do it unless you use a lot of AC and you will have a 24 volt converter.

But in any case, what kind of batteries are you considering. If you are ok with FLAs then 12V golf cart batteries are the cheapest $/kWhr.

It sounds as if the O.P. is going to catch "lightning in a bottle".
Good luck with the project: please keep us informed!

One reason I choose 24v system is :
12v charge Victron controller (for 1,200w) charge controller and Victron
inverter/charge (3,000w) is about $1,000(with taxes) more expensive than 24v 's counterpart, not to mention the extra cost on wires etc.

While 24v to 12v converter is only one bucks.
