Thoughts on the CHF

I've seen plenty of testimonials here on the great improvement this modification makes and I've got a question. If the vehicle handles that much better after the mod, why is the chassis not configured that way from the factory? Not at all doubting anyone's opinions, just wondering.

Because the factory ships and unloaded frame unit. It doesn't need the "fix" until a house is built on it.

That makes sense, thanks. The E350 is used for many other vehicles besides motor homes.

The cheap "fix" doesn't apply to E-350 or E-450 as used on Axis and Vegas, or on most Cutaways.

I don't agree shipping has much to do with anything even if it's an F53 chassis. The CHF may be cheap (as in free), but it comes at other costs (trade offs). Ford engineers don't have the luxury of increasing roll stiffness at all costs. It's not that simple, otherwise they would install sway bars twice as big around -- cost would be minimal. But from an "overall design and performance" standpoint it would not work well.

Owners who do CHF are primarily focused on eliminating body roll only. I'm certain Ford chassis engineers tune chassis for an overall compromise given what they have to work with.
