Mercedes Benz Sprinter Engine Tune

I just returned from having my MB Sprinter's ECU tuned to increase horsepower and torque. I was lucky that the company I used (OE Tuning) is located in Santa Ana California which is about a 20 minute drive from my house. I removed the Engine Computer Unit from under the hood and took it to OE Tuning. In less than 2 hours it was completed. Now from a dead stop I can take off quicker with no lagging or sluggish acceleration. It added about 60 horsepower and near 80 Tq for towing. It does not affect the required smog emissions as I have to have it get a smog check every other year . I also noticed an increase in fuel economy. The tune is saved in their system and the factory tune can be re-installed at any time. Total for their service was $476(special 20% off during the stay at home sale). The usual price is $600. If the dealership should over write the tune, OE Tuning will re-install it for free one time. I am very happy with the results so far. I am looking forward to towing our car on trips now.

Paul

I think you'll find the dealer wont over-write the tune.
Instead
They'll flag your vehicle and void your warranty on anything related to ecu control.
If you're out of warranty they might flag it anyway and no dealer will work on it.
Rentech is the only approved aftermarket tuner I know of.

I may be wrong but I may be right.

I own three tuned vehicles.
You really don't want your MB dealer to find that ecm change.

You could call any mb service center and ask what they do when they find an ecu flash.
Or
'Hi. What local aftermarket tuner does your service department supervisor recommend?'

If you're out of warranty I would heartily suggest an ecm flash. I love mine.

I can always revert it back to factory before having a MB dealer touch it and then put it back in after the dealer is done with it.

Paul
That's what needs done...unless you're broke down and need towed in to the dealer.

One of My trucks has a controller to easily swap it back.

I'm posting this information only as a caveat to those not initiated into the hotrod lifestyle/mindset. They'll need do think twice and thrice and call their dealer first.

There's a member here who had their v10 blow up with very few miles.
It is VERY rare.
Ford would have told him to drop dead if he had a flash.

Paul,
You mentioned noticing an increase in fuel economy...

Can you tell us a bit more about that?

Hi Bob
I have only had it for today, but noticed that while driving the 15 miles to my storage facility and having the speedometer set to 60 on the freeway I got 16.2 miles per gallon. The roads to my storage facility are freeway(more than 10 miles) and street that is posted at 55(dairy farm area). I will report back once I have more miles with the tuned ecu. I used to get 14 mpg on that same route.
