Replace Entry Door Opaque Glass

Just replaced the opaque glass in entry door of our 2018 Thor Freedom Elite 25FE with the AP Products Thin Shade tinted glass. The Boss loves it. Now we have a clear view out that window and outsiders can't see inside.... during the day. And at night you pull down the included shade. Was an easy modification...and Camping World had them on sale.

So, what's the problem? If someone knocks at your door at night, the only way to raise the shade is to open the screen and door. Has anyone resolved how to raise / lower shade without having to open the door?

I had done the same in our previous coach and we loved it as well. We then discovered that the only way to raise the shade was to open both doors, go outside, close the screen door, stand on the steps and raise the shade on the window. We ended up mostly using it for shading in hot weather and when in storage.

When I was researching window shades prior to buying it I did see a shade that had a slide contraption that could be activated in the screen door handle opening that opened the shade but that was not the one I installed.

If you just crack the door open, and stick a 12 gauge barrel outside... they'll back up, and let you get a good look at them!

Or just the sound of a shotgun cocking.

But how about if you got tape Velcro attached to nylon screen and stick it on the upper section of the screen door. Then (after you permanently removed the existing section of screen), just pull down on upper Velcro to where you could access the shade and restick Velcro when finished.

I replaced my glass years ago with just some tinted glass from a glass shop.
Then installed a roller shade on the wall above the door. Pull it down at night

You could do that as an alternative perhaps

Roller shade above door - That is the best idea yet

When we installed ours, we installed the shade to pull from the bottom up. That way we keep it partially open all the time. Just enough to see out , but not enough that they can see in. That way we do not need to worry about opening and closing it.
That said, I have no idea how they can make it that it can open with the door closed as you mentioned.

And then you get arrested for threatening someone with a loaded gun.

This is the one I saw on Amazon - I believe Lippert makes it. I have no experience with it but the design makes sense to me.

My GF thinks that if she can't see out, they can't see in. She's always giving our neighbors a show and doesn't seam to care. She's part hippie or something...except she smells good. I'm afraid she would never close the blind.

The one that Ottosails has pictured is available on Amazon from ZARCOR. Amazon has it listed for $149.00. It is called RV Window CloZures Shade. Their number is 800 877 4797. They claim you can open or close the shade without having to open the screen door. It appears you remove the entire window and install their window with the shade. It comes in black or white trim. I have not used this product but found it on Amazon.

I installed the Google Nest battery Cam that is magnetic and you can stick it anywhere, alerts your phone’s Google Home app when there is some activity. Wifi required. Now that there are possible gas thieves out there.

Put some sort of magnet on the bottom of the shade. Then use a really strong magnet on the inside of the screen to control the shade. Just remember to take off the magnet before closing the screen from the door. 🤷*♂️

Is there any benefit to trying to install the shade on the screen door?
