Rex's 2017 22FE Class "C" modifications thread

Gotta start a build thread with some before pictures. As purchased used with only 2,000 miles.
No changes gonna happen fast, but plan is to convert to 4x4, restripe, aluminum wheels bla bla bla...
Main use for now will be 1-3 day vacations and a tow rig to car shows/swap meets.

We picked this up today; came from a 1997 F-350... its in better shape than it appears, and I'll be going through completely.

I’m looking forward to this, as the conversion and stripes are really cool.

Are you going to leaf or coil the frontend?

factory brake controller

Thought I'd start with a couple needed mods....

Pulled the dash compartment/change holder out and verified I have a brake controller wiring harness. Then ordered one like shown in OEM below picture. (it doesn't list for a 2017 E450, so we'll see... i'm feeling lucky)

Got a pair of driving lights for a 2000'ish Chevy/GMC truck. It appears Ford never made any for the E series. I like this type of light that shines just in front and sideways towards both curbs.
Cut some holes in the bumper valance and used a heat gun with patience to roll edges for a more factory look. Also ordered this switch panel to go with brake controller.

After I get wired up and adjusted, I plan to clean up the holes a little bit better.

I’m definitely adding the brake controller and switches to mine, next time I’m around the Ford dealer to order them. I appreciate your researching those items, as I had no idea either were available.

Driving light addition looks VERY nice! Just like it was a factory option. You're doing well.

Was going to wire in the "upfitter switches" and harness with relays I got off Ebay. But when I looked in the owners manual it showed the fuse panel had fuse and relay locations for the switches. I did a little testing and found fuse box was already wired up, just needs 4 fuses and 4 relays installed. Finding the 4 wires that are the outputs were easy, but the 4 that go the switches proved to be very very difficult. I ended up chasing the wires from the fuse/relay box and pulling them out of the harness.

That’s unfortunate. Would’ve been cool if they would’ve ran a harness up to that area and just included a mating plug and leads on the switches.

Got "upfitter switches" and F350 brake controller installed and dash back together. 1st picture taken just after key switch is turned to run, will hookup at trailer and test in the spring. Only AUX 1 has anything wired to it (running lights in the bumper valance)... Hmmm what to use other 3 for ?

Wanted to add a little room and put swivel bases on both drivers and passenger seats.(some other day) First thing was modify dinette to a single seat, removed 21 3/8" today, will cut down upper cushion and make table top smaller tomorrow. So no more drawer storage, but do have easy access to the hot water tank valves now.

So are you going to angle the table top?

Yeah, plan make it kind of triangular/oval'ish. Gonna make a couple cardboard templates and seem what looks/works ok. It only has to sit 3 and one is a Chihuahua.

The way Thor jam everything up against the seats is irritating. I’ll gladly give up coach space to gain seat track and recline space.

Swivel passenger seat

I will be anxious to see the pictures and info about your swivel seat. We have the same model and aren’t planning to change the driver seat. We leave the dream dinette in the bed position and treat it as a sofa. I would like extra seat in coach and want to swivel the passenger seat.
