Rotate black/gray tank discharge 90 degrees?
A question to all the experienced RV folks. First, I have a '22 Thor ACE. The black and gray share one unholy discharge. The discharge is facing straight out of the cabinet. That's fine and all but, the cabinet must be left open to be hooked up. However, right below the discharge, is a perfect preformed hole, with a screw lid made right into the formed plastic cabinet. It's screaming to have the discharge hose go right through it and connect to the discharge. Why this discharge is not aiming through the hole I don't know. My question is, can I just loosen the bolts holding the discharge and rotate it down 90 degrees to line up with the cabinet hole? I think it could work but I'm a tad bit concerned that somehow the gaskets on either side will get munched or twisted or otherwise unable to seal after that. One bad move on this could spell black tank disaster. Any thoughts or experience with this sort of thing? I think I'm attaching a picture. If it doesn't come through, I'll try again. thanks.

Looks like an install error to me. I just bought the Camping World version of an ACE (Freedom) It has the discharge pointing down, through the port. I'd put on some nitrile gloves, loosen/remove the bolts and reorient.

Although it’s tight you should be able to rotate the discharge pipe to point down. A bunch of posts on that very topic on the forum.

IT should rotate to point down. It will be stiff to move. Having it up as shown in your photo makes it easier to put the cap on and the access port cover back on. Also makes it easier to reach anything that has worked its way all the way back into the wet bay.

It doesn’t look like it will line up with the hole when rotated downward from your pic. Even if it did, I think it would be difficult to tighten the hose fitting.

It lines up perfectly. Just looks weird from the perspective of the shot. The stinky slinky hooks up just fine.
And yes the fittings are hard to tighten that is why I have a set of wrenches for that.

You can also try a clear 90 or 45 degree elbow and rotate down some. Mine looked like yours I added a 45 degree elbow and rotated down a little and twisted elbow a little lined up fine.

NOT NEEDED in this situation. Adding an additional fitting would just get in the way, especially since the fitting would have to be removed in order to close the access port for travel.

Actually having a clean extension or elbow is extremely helpful when flushing the black tank. I highly recommend using one.

I'll bet you meant CLEAR (transparent) elbow... which is invaluable for actually seeing if you're down to clear water when flushing. Otherwise one has no idea if the black tank is actually flushed clean.

My 35SF was that way. Had I rotated it, it wouldn't line up with the hole in the bottom. I just left it that way and partially closed the door while hooked up. It's tough enough to get down there and hookup in the vertical position...it will be much more difficult in the down position. You would need to almost crawl underneath...not to mention breaking something in the process of relocating it downward. .

The end of the stinky slinky that hooks up to the park sewer connection is a clear elbow. That one is enough I don't need an additional "viewport".

Any deliver tech at a reputable dealer should show a new coach owner the proper dump procedure in the PDI. All Thor MC plat 750 coach's have had a swivel dump coupling since 2016 and probably before that.
I prefer to leave the coupling straight out and use a clear 90 degree elbow to the dump hose.

Except that the 90 degree connection would not line up with the opening. I would not be able to get the sewer hose connected through the port intended for that. My connection must be pointed down to connect a sewer hose. Yes, I could put the 90 degree connection through the port but doing that has all the same drawbacks of just connecting the hose directly unless you just leave it on. For me that is a NOGO because first the compartment would then be open to the outside which would expose the water pump to freezing temperatures while traveling in cold weather and that 90 degree extension would be too near the pavment for my comfort.

Any ideas on how long (years) the rotating parts will work without leaking?
Ours needs to be rotated down to drain and the drain is too long to leave in the rotated position. Every tank dump we twist it down then back up.
Hoping the parts will last forever......signed ever hopeful.

Rotate dump pipe up a couple of inches attach a 45 degree elbow swivel the elbow to the left a little then rotate dump pipe down until it allows you to attach sewer hose. When you are done disconnect sewer hose and rotate elbow 180 and attach cap screw in floor hole cover.

Four and a half years with the same set up. Thirty plus nights a year.
Rotate the pipe down and it aligns with hole. Close door, reach underneath and screw on hose. Very easy and convenient. Then just leave the pipe facing down and never turn it again. If you want, put the cover back on the exit hole.

I wondered about that when we picked up our rig. I asked the delivery tech and he said just rotate it down. Took more force than I expected, but lined up fine when turned down.

Look! It ain’t rocket science. That is made to swivel down without loosening a thing. First unscrew the cap in the floor. Right hand on top. Left hand on swivel. Push. Voila! Now remove the cap. Attach your hose up threw the hole. Bingo. When done. Remove the hose. Replace the cap. Swivel back up. Screw the cover back to the floor. Yes, it’s designed to work like this. However, since swiveling this pipe seems to me to be a weak design, I found the “magic” angle where I leave it swiveled down part way. Can still handle removing the plug in floor. No longer have to swivel. Play with yours. Find that position. But dont start loosening nuts and bolts.
