Safety equip and insurance

When we got RV insurance our answer to “Do you have any safety equipment installed?” was “ Yes, our Safe-T-Plus equipment enhances control in the event of a front tire blowout.” Got a slight break on the premium for additional safety equipment installed.

a guess could be $500 - $800 depending on where you buy and who you pay to install.

If you are going to in Atlanta you can buy from factory direct and they install for like $600 bucks?

I wanted to do mine myself, but had an issue with the Ford Commercial Truck Center. They could not get the U bolts off to mount my bracket but charged me $150 anyway for trying. They had a minimum charge. I found a Spring Shop in Dallas that mounted that bracket for $75 and I did the rest. I spent about $650 total and I can adjust myself when necessary. I bought part from CW on a black Friday sale.

It was money well spent as I will never go back to that Ford Commercial Center (Rush) unless it is warranty work.

I just installed SafeTPlus 180 on my 2019 ACE 27.2. At age 72 crawling under, even with 8" front wheel ramps isn't as easy as old days but I took my time and it was not that bad. Biggest issue for me was verifying the correct torque to apply to the stationary mounting plate that uses one spring shackle bolts after removing nuts. The shackles on my unit are 3/4" diameter. SafeTPlus instructions say to apply 250 lb-ft when re-tightening shackle nuts. I used a Harbor Freight 3/4" drive torque wrench to increase torque in stages. At 200 lb-ft I was grunting hard so I checked the undisturbed factory installed nuts and found they were set a little less than 200 lb-ft so I settled for 220 on the nuts I was re-installing. I have a slight steering adjustment left to make. First test drive did not reveal dramatic change but this device is meant to damp extreme forces and maybe make normal driving a little more relaxing.

I gave Amazon $560 for the unit and mounting kit. I used it as excuse to buy a $90 heavy torque wrench and a $250 Dewalt 20v impact wrench at Home Depot.

You should have bought a 3 foot length of galvanized pipe from Home Depot to use on the torque wrench to serve as a cheater bar. That is what I did when I installed the SafeTPlus on the Challenger a couple of years ago.

I recommend that on your next trip or shortly there after you recheck the torque on the bolts they can and may loosen slightly.

My old torque wrench had max setting of 160 lb-ft. Didn't need a cheater on the big, shiny-new wrench. I will be checking the fasteners after more miles, thanks.

Has anyone tried the quick fix shown on U Tube where you merely adjust the mounting position of the steering rods?

Different issue! We are talking about our experience ADDING a steering damper, a device not provided on most RV's. You may be referring to the "cheap fix" adjustment to the front sway bar installed at the factory ... a different matter entirely. There is much coverage of the CHF in these forums.

That CHF has opinions all over the globe. The experts on this site swear by it. It is the only thing that I have not listened too

I am sure it may be okay, but I could not get Ford to sign off on it. I even talked with Safe T Plus about the CHF and they refused to to give me a direct response citing they could NOT discuss non Safe T Plus solutions.

At the end of the day, the CHF solution is so simple and been around so long; that it made no sense that Ford would NOT validate unless there was some reason? Especially if it made ride smoother. By contrast Winnebago and my Dealer all spoke positive of Safe T Plus. My coach ran okay without Safe T Plus and better with it; so it is worth the money. But the real need for Safe T plus is handling in blowout conditions. I just feel better and like the fact that I can always adjust my Safe T Plus get stable ride right or left whenever needed without going to dealer.

"You can't do that...."

It says clearly in the Home Depot Shopping manual that all purchases must be of primary intent and not a derivative of some prior purchase from any other retail outlet. Please relinquish your heavy duty wrench and Dewalt 20v impact to me immediately. I will ensure it is well taken care of
