DOC ! Ha ! ... Duck/Gorilla tape is a staple around here !! So far, it is sticking !
...regarding the mounting bracket ! VERY observant !! I did not notice that Squids bracket had 2 screws ! It will be interesting to see what you get.
and...did I read your recent post correctly...yours is not brushed steel?
How do you like that ?

Kay,

I "assumed" it was alumimun; it came in a box wrapped with nothing but bubble wrap, light weight, won't attract a magnet and has no label...it looked like a 5' metal archer's bow for an elf.

Squid,

When you mounted yours what length of bolts did you go back with? I just got my mounts in the mail at lunch and they sure look long. I'd hate to go thru the side of the RV...anyone know how thick the outside and bathroom/bedroom walls are??

The kit I got from Amazon had all kind of hardware. I chose the Molly bolts... Kinda scary making that big of hole but they work great! If I remember the screws were to long so had to cut an inch off.... So total length around 2".

Squid,

Yep it looked like a bunch of optional things to mount with and all a bit long (and big)!

HELP!

The mounts came in today (have 3 screw holes). I measured and all went well on the mount by the sink. I measured and the first hole went well, the last two hit metal (the two in vertical alignment). So I stopped and took the following two pictures.
above stall.jpg
out from toliet cabinet.jpg

Sorry a bit fuzzy and the tape measure is upside down.

I will contact Thor tomorrow, but just fishing if anyone knows what lies beyound the metal please feel free to sing out. I am hoping just some kind of reinforcement bar or "stud".

I have an American Legion meeting shortly so I'll be gone for a couple of hours.

I would suspect you hit one of the aluminum studs. You can ask Thor for those diagrams too (the wall and ceiling construction diagrams).

Jamie,

That is what I suspected. I have the layout of the walls and what-nots and it looks like an aluminum stud is there, but I do not have the electrical lay out.

I'd hate to be wrong and have as my last memories the whiff of ozone and the crackle of 120V's passing thru me.

Just me, a belt and suspenders kind of guy.

I hope Ed is online tonight, I could do with his input (and his intel) prior to piercing that metal structure.

Well you can turn off all 120V when you drill--you have a cordless drill right?

Jamie,

Yep, that is the plan for tomorrow after work (power off, cordless drill). If it is an aluminum stud...that shower curtain rod will never move!

If you think about that spot on the coach: High up on the drivers side wall. Its really unlikely that there is any wire in there at all. At most a 12V line going somewhere. All the 120V wiring is lower down in the coach (other than the lines to the A/C but they are likely on the passenger side by the converter).

Jamie,

I agree and I have myself talked into cutting thru that metal tomorrow unless I get a no go from Thor. BUT, in the back of my mind is that opening line to so many situations: "Hey guys watch me do...".

Doc -- my electrical drawings do not show where they physically ran the wires. The routings are just notional. We are traveling right now & I'll check this evening. If you can't wait just do the, "Here, hold my beer and watch this."

All,

Just finished emailing with Thor, the power lines are run lower in the walls and behind the drawers and cabinets.

I will finish up the install tonight and I'll post a picture with the old track still in place to get an idea the area of increase.

Then it is up to the DW to pick out the correct color of shower curtain.

THE ARC IS IN!

Finally got the parts, got clearance to drill and got it up today. The metal problem turned out to be a wall stud...non-electrical in nature.

I have attached two pictures showing the gain in space. I left the old curtains in to show the difference. Once the DW gets her shopping done we will have a new curtain for it.

It does clear the cabinet over the toilet.

On to the next MOD.

My arc arrived today (ordered it Tuesday from Amazon..gotta love prime ).

You're right Doc: Lots of different options for mounting:

Doc: Which mounts did you use? Did you have to trim any length off the bar?

I think we'll go shopping for a shower curtain before I put it up so I get the height correct.

Jamie,

I used the toggle bolts, shortened to 1 1/2 inches (as recommended by THor's tech). Where I hit the aluminum stud there on the outside wall I used two self-tapping 1 1/4 inch metal screws.

Getting the teflon plugs (used to seal the holes cut in the wall with the back of the mounting bracket) was easy for 5 out of 6, one required a bit of twitching and cursing to get it to line up - but it did.

Oh yeah, if you hit the stud and choose to mount to the metal stud you you will need to shave the length of the two teflon plugs that fill in the hole drilled for the toggle bolt or else the bracket will not fit flush against the wall...when you first try putting it together.

Get the 72 inch length curtain and if you mount it as Ron showed his (bottom of the bracket 2 1/8" above the top of the plastic shower wall) all will be well.
