Side access door

I’m in the process of buying a 2022 axis 24.1 and during the review, found it odd that the access door at the rear passenger side does not use a piano hinge like the other access doors. Is there a reason for this? The door cannot fully open i.e. doesn’t secure to the wall. Seems like this would make it more difficult to get items in/out.

Has anyone modified or changed out the existing hinge and replaced with a piano style hinge?

Yes, I know this isn’t a 2022 model in the pic… lol.

Bumping this up. Haven't seen this before on the forum. There may be a good reason for using that style of hinge. Hope someone steps up with an answer.

I don’t think those are hinges, I think the are the turn lock and key lock.

One is a thumb operated offset cam lock the other is key lock! Not hinges. Hinges are on the right side of door. Looked a a bunch of axis to find the right picture.

Looks like the body seam molding is the problem.
Probably no easy way to cover the seam if the molding was removed

Thanks for the replies. I reviewed the unit again yesterday and we are definitely buying it. The next photo show the hinge on rear side door but it’s difficult to see, but the way the door opens blocks about 3-4 inches on the right side of the compartment. The second photo has an orange arrow pointing to the small front side compartment door, which is hinged (not piano) on the right side. When opened, it does so fully and rests on the trim molding but does not pinch it. I think a mag stop would be better. Ive asked the dealer to see if the same style or piano hinge is available and want to modify the rear side door. I am wanting to create a pull out small cooktop and cooler refrigerator in lower bin and need the door to fully open. Not sure if this is sad or not, but Ive already modified the MH in my head and havent purchased it yet. Lol

That sounds like an interesting idea. You need the door to open all the way back so you have ample access to the opening with the door out of the way. Not sure if the trim molding might get in the way or not.

I think it will open enough to improve the available width, even if not fully. The hinges that I saw had thin mounting plates and the gap seems like it will accommodate without having to modify the door. Knowing myself, im gonna try at least.
