Smart Plug

Just watched video about smart plug replacement for rv twist and lock ring style rv plug looks like a much better, safer connection, but not cheap. Anybody switch to a smart plug on a class a with 50 amp? $$$ is it worth it?

I looked into it.
It appears to be for RV people who insist on having a small metal latch that can catch and stick and mess with you, just for the sake of messing with you.

Please know how in a marine situation a boat will move up down and side to side, perhaps many feet, at any time regardless of how you tie it to the dock. A latch, or my lazy butt actually using the lock ring on my already owned cord, will absolutely be needed on a BOAT.

RV...not so much.
That latch will mess with me every chance it gets.
That cord is just some work to replace your existing plug, and it might be two handed to release that latch.

If I did anything to a regular power cord it would be add a 90* adaptor to the twist lock. Takes the strain relief off the cord and plug vs a straight connector. Notice more power cords come with 45 or 90 molded plugs now. Marinco, I believe sells a dogbone type adaptor that fits that bill. I put one on the GFs Crusader when I had to replace the cord end and trailer plug section that melted due to strain and working loose.
