Smoked inverter xm1800

My xantrex started smoking when moving the motorhome. Looking to replace with something bigger. I have a 2017 thor 35sd. I thinking about putting a Renogy 3000w in. Has anyone used this before? What all do i need to consider? Or should i just stick with a 2000w? Looking to go lithium in future. With solar.

Thank you.

"The Judge" will be in this room soon. He did just this upgrade on his Super C and has all the answers/options.

What do you plan to run with a bigger inverter? You may need more battery capacity sooner rather than later.

It's the chicken vs. the egg thing. As long as you don't connect anything more to the larger inverter than what's running off of it now, it doesn't matter....but...increasing inverter size and load without up-sizing batteries at the same time...you'll smoke another one or fry your wet cells. It could be a fire hazard.

Go big
The initial cost is the only reason to Go smaller.
You can use 2000w on a 3000w inverter but you cant use 3000w on a 2000w inverter.

The occasional space heater/coffee maker/microwave combo is allowed at 3000w.

And you only be batteries away from a really nice system...batteries can be bought in increments to add. Soon you'll have air conditioning type capacities.

I have this.
https://www.amazon.com/Xantrex-815-3...s%2C266&sr=8-2
(It will piggyback to 6,000w and charge batteries at 300a+ which was my goal. I have since calmed wwwwaaaayyyy down)

Judge has all the details of install and works.

Just be aware, none of the existing 120V outlets in your coach are connected to your inverter except maybe one...in the bedroom. You'll have to re-wire some of them if you "go bigger" with the draw from your inverter.

8 of them minimum to run the ac for any length of time.
We run the 1500w stuff all we need on just two 100amp wet cells. Maybe an hour....

See if your converter is just 45w and if it is of value to you to have a converter big enough to expand your battery package.

Just do your appliances a favor, get a pure sign wave.
We have the same coach. Your inverter only runs the fridge, a plug in bedroom for c pap devices, tv, microwave.

In my signature thread I explain that I passed on a 3,000w inverter for $10.
I'm not sure if the sine wave thing is over rated but I didn't want to chance it since the $10 unit wasn't sine wave.

Here is some light reading for you. I upgraded the Xantrex Freedom X 2000 wiith the Xantrex Freedom XC Pro 3000 Inverter / Charger.

This is big enough to run one of the two A/C units, microwave, etc. I also rewired the coach to run any AC circuit off the Inverter. I have 680Ah of BigBattery LiFePO4 batteries installed as well.

Are you sure about your inverter running the microwave? Similar coach but mine doesn't...that's pulling 1600W alone.

Does anyone have any wiring schematic for the 2017 thor 35sd. I replaced the inverter and having some wiring issues. The wire that goes to frig and tvs keeps giving me a ground fault condition on my inverter. And now when im plugged in or on the generator they do not get power. I can take the wire and plug it into an extension cord from my house and everything runs fine??

Check for GFCI on that circuit.

The inverter on the Super C does not go through the GFCI corcuit. The Inverter output goes directly from the Inverter to the fridge, TV’s and another outlet or two.

The output should go through a subpanel with a breaker but it does not. I rewired mine with a sublanel.

Thats what i have traced out. But I can’t figure out where the shore power ties in?

The Shore Power input is a 15A breaker…. Usually labeled TV Receptacles. Thor uses a breaker off the Power Distribution panel for the input but when off Shore / Generator Power, that breaker is not active and they dont use a breaker on the output side.

The Romex coming from the output goes into a junction box and then splits off to TV’s and the fridge. My junction box is under the bed where all the electronics are locsted.
