Sofa - Thor ACE

We just bought a 2013 Thor ACE. Only the two of us (and the dogs) will be traveling in it so we are having the sofa removed and the flooring under it fixed prior to delivery. We are hoping to find to recliners to replace the sofa.
Has anyone on here done that?

Not sure what size is required for your rig, but Google up Lazy boy. I have heard of some that have gotten hard to find sizes from them.

Unfortunately, I think a small size is needed. Lazy Boy is one of the places we plan to look for them. Good that we are not tall.

After much searching and frustration, we are sticking with the sofa. There are two problems we have encountered that seem to be deal breakers.
Even though a majority of slides on newer RVs are fairly even with the floor, ours is raised by two inches. Since the slide is only 30 odd inches in depth, this had us looking for small recliners. Even though we found some at La-Z-Boy, the second problem mad them a no go.
The biggest hinderance seems to be a shelf that Thor has on the back wall of the slide at 28 inches high. The depth of this shelf makes it almost impossible to find a recliner that will recline under it. We are looking at having the shelf taken out -- but don't want to wreck the wallpaper, etc in doing so. The shelf seems silly to us. Because of the shelf, the couch's height is restricted to 28 inches - which contributes to it being uncomfortable.
We will look into this further once we start full timing. A trip to Indiana will be in the books.
Oh well, can't have everything.
Lisa

If you haven't given up searching yet, you might try
here Living Room Furniture - Sofas, Coffee Tables & Inspiration - IKEA

I don't know if they have any stores in your area.

Lloyd, thank you for this idea. We haven't given up, as much as not actively searching. We have an Ikea about 4 hours from the house. Might just have to make a trip up there.

Good Morning Lisa,

Just wondering if you changed the couch to recliner and if so how is it working for you?

Mike and Jane
Looking at the ACE 30.1

Hi Mike and Jane,

Nope, we could not find any recliners that would fit on the slide. Very disappointing. We are getting used to the couch, might try and find something after we go full time next year - maybe a trip to Indiana with all the stores that do modifications up there.

I also have a 30.1 purchased about a month ago and I'm ---> <--- that close to replacing the couch with this:

De Leon Double Recliner

It should fit just fine. That little shelf behind the standard couch is just screwed to the wall and should be really easy to remove. Besides, the double recliner has it's own cupholders so I wouldn't miss the ones in the shelf.

I'm still double-checking measurements but it should work. That site also has some fancier couches as well..

changing sofa

This is probably a dumb question... but how do you get the old
sofa out and the new one in ? (the entry door doesn't seem that wide).
but, i guess it must be...

recliner and sleeper?

2nd question.

is there a recliner/sleeper sofa that can be replaced in the ACE?
i say a Forest River FR3 28DS that it's sofa seemed to both
recline with foot pads as well as turned into a sleeper.

thanks.

Generally you can remove the back on most of them and take them out in two pieces.

Hi! Was wondering if you ever found out any info on your question about replacing the sofa with a sleeper sofa? We're currently researching options for our Hurricane 27K. Thanks!

Replaced sofa

We replaced the jack knife. With a. Tri fold sofa from CW. --- 68 inch width ---- fits perfectly-- very comfortable---
The Tri fold shipped 90 percent assembled --- fit through the door -- assembled easy ---
We had to remove the shelf under the window
ACE. 30.1. 2013

I found a set that would fit. I have an ACE 30.1. These came from a local discount store call "The Club Store". Evidently these were an overstock type item from COSTCO and the brand is Pulaski. These do come apart in 4 pieces, seats and backs so it was easy to disassemble and get thru the coach door. Think I paid $300. They aren't leather but called tri (something) material. Very comfortable.

Basically you just disassemble the jack knife sofa and remove. Remove the shelf off the wall behind (its just screwed on the wall). I did add a piece of plywood under the couch to give me a wider base and also to screw it into the slide floor.

These do recline and are the wall huger type. They recline away from the wall and almost go flat. There is room to fully recline with the slide in as well.

Paul b we are considering replacing the sofa in our 2015 30.1 with a tri fold from CW also.

What model and color sofa did you get? CW says it will only fit through a 26" door. Our MH door is 24". How did you get the new sofa in the MH?

Please post a picture if possible.

Thanks,

Tom
