That product may be a foam that shrinks with heat (is it Styrofoam?). Also, if you leave gaps when you install it, it may not deaden sound at all. The doghouse fiberglass can act as a resonator so you need a dense thick product like a rubber mat that can take the heat. It's a fair amount of work to get it done right so don't cheap out on the proper material. HEAVY and DENSE. The foam boards work for heat transmission not sound deadening.

How hard is it to remove the doghouse from a 2015 Hurricane. Is it simple as it should be or one of those, what have I gotten myself into moments?

Thank you

Whose talking about foam boards? This thread, as well as others is talking about adhesive-backed flexible sound deadening foam products which are made specifically for this purpose in a hot environment.

And no, dense board is not good for sound deadening: dense material pass sound more readily:

Water is denser than air
Steel is denser than wood.

Think about it.

We have an ACE, which I believe has the same doghouse. The doghouse is held down by 4 screws, so all you have to do is unscrew them and gently pry the doghouse up. It may have developed an affinity for the floor, but its not glued down or held by any other fasteners. I used a putty knife to help with a couple of spots and then it came right up.

After installing the deadening material, put the screws back in the doghouse and make sure they are through any of the material you installed. I covered the dog house screw holes with the hood liner and then cut slits for the screws to poke through. Then pushed the screws in so they were a little below the doghouse edge. The hood liner material then kept the screws in place. Made it much easier to find the holes in the floor. It looked like during installation Thor just set the doghouse and drilled into the floor - no special alignment or fittings to line up to.

Thank you Rick.

I called the manufacturer of Dynamat and hoodliner and the said they are fire proof and come with a certificate or label with the flammability rating.

Okay, you guys talked me into something I have wanted to do for a while. Removed the doghouse today just to see what I was getting into. Thank you Rick for the encouragement. I got lucky, mine only has 4 clamps. It was stuck a bit but came off pretty easy. I was also surprised as it appeared the technician actually tried to do a good job. Engineering is lacking at best as it only had open cell foam covered with foil. I ordered the Noico 80 mil at about half the price of Dynamat extreme with comparable specs and the Dynamat hood liner and two rolls of Dynamat tape. Hope to install it in the doghouse and under the floor of the cab where possible next weekend. Here are the before pics.

Just finished insulating doghouse 2016 Axis 25.2 and anyone interested it took me almost 2 sheets (18 1/2x32) of Dynamat and a little than a third sheet (32x54) of hoodliner. Wasn’t too hard of a job-took me several hours and will see what I think of result.Click image for larger version

All of those screws we're a pain, right? I'm glad I got to it as a bird or squirrel had built a nest on my engine.

Finished up over the weekend I just ordered another sheet of Dynamat hoodliner so I can line the area just above the transmission for heat insulation. We put the Noico sound deadening on the doghouse, above the transmission and on both passenger and drivers side, then put dynamat hood liner on the doghouse and around the doghouse opening. Decreased sound by about 5 db at 2500 RPM while parked.

If the doghouse is attached with a bunch of phillips self tapping screws into the metal surround like it is on my Thor Vegas, it is not easy because there is very little clearance for any length screwdriver. The radio area, mounted on a flimsy piece of plastic is backed with some wood pieces that get in the way of the screwdriver. Use a VERY short screwdriver or a 90° tool to get to the tight ones. The two big screws on either side of the doghouse are no problem to remove. I replaced all of my phillips screws with 3/8" bolt head type screws for future removal ease-same length, same width from the hardware store.

Thanks Hobo1, The Hurricane just has 4 buckles and aside from the fact one of the 4 can't be buckled because of the way it is attached, it was really simple to remove. Thanks again,

Thanks for sharing your modifications.

I've removed the doghouse on my Thor Vegas and want to order the soundproofing supplies. I checked Amazon and found there are several types of Dynamat. Did you use the Dynamat 11905 Hoodliner 32" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Self-Adhesive Sound Deadener
by Dynamat ?

Thanks!
Catherine

I used the hoodliner on top of the Noico (This is how dynamat recommends it be done) Noico 80 mil 36 sqft car Sound deadening mat, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00URUIKAK..._Pp4.Ab5ZWD626 which is equivalent to dynamat extreme. . First apply the Noico then the hoodliner. (Noico is 1/3 the price) Dont bother with the roller. Very happy with the results!

Note: you might want to cover doghouse opening. A bird found it's way into the RV when I removed mine!

We purchased a 2019 Vegas a couple of weeks ago. We pulled the doghouse yesterday in order to add insulation. There was absolutely NOTHING insulating our doghouse.

You’re lucky! It’ll be easier to clean, the new mat will stick better and the result will be more impressive.

I’m a “glass half full” kind of gal, so I like the fact you reminded me to look at the bright side. Insulating it absolutely made a difference. Thanks!

Spend the money...it's worth it. Put dynamat in our thor windsport 31z and it made a huge difference....
Wife and I could not even talk to each other on the first trip it was so loud up front. Put in the dynamat, it's like a different RV now.....
If you spend 50-100k on an rv, 50 bucks is not that much to spend for a quiet ride....IMO.
