Sound proofing Dog House?

I had the dog house off to change the oil on my coach. (see “Oil Change 2018 Vegas) I had some extra expanding foam sealant (see Sealing Under Carriage), so I decided to spray the interior portion of my Dog House. It will probably keep the heat down also [emoji3]

I thought that I could do a much better job, LOL.

How did it work out? Did it help with heat and sound?

Dog house insulation...plus floor

I removed the seats of our Class C 31W (4 nuts and bolts per) and the doghouse. Then used race car grade thermal insulation (double faced aluminum foil with air filled pvc between the aluminum). Using a high strength 3M adhesive I first cut out and shaped the insulation for the doghouse then applied the 1/4 inch thick insulation to the engine side of the doghouse. I pulled the rubber floor mat and added insulation to the entire floor with a double layer over the rear engine, transmission, drivetrain area.

Result.. way less heat and road noise. Cost about $50 and a few hours of my time. I would consider this a low to medium skill level of DIY project. The wife is more comfortable and the dogs don’t get hot foot anymore

I haven’t driven it since insulation. I agree this is low level DIY, however, it was an afterthought trying to use extra expansion foam after undercarriage holes were sealed.

Good idea! I was just sharing a different approach. Seems our manufacturing friends enjoy lots of doodahs in the coach but overlook the basics...

Sound proofing Dog House?

I am absolutely amazed at how well this cheap modification worked! The sound reduction is wonderful. My wife and I are able to speak at near normal conversational levels. After 5 hours of driving, the heat reduction is incredible. The top horizontal portion of the doghouse is barely above room temperature and the vertical sides of it are at room temperature. I highly recommend going through the hassle of making this modification!
