Spare tire added
Added a spare tire to the Axis. Since we're about to embark on what should be a month long, 5k+ mile road trip from home in Fl to Nova Scotia and back, decided we didn't want to be without a spare tire. Aside from the aggravation of having a flat, I didn't want what I'm sure would be a very costly situation of having to buy a tire from some roadside service. With a spare, I can limp to a discount warehouse for a new tire, if we have to. Ordered a carrier that mounts in the trailer hitch receiver, $80. Finding a good used wheel proved to be more difficult than I expected. Ones that fit the E450 chassis used by Thor apparently are somewhat scarce. Three local junk yards didn't have one and couldn't locate one for me. But, again eBay saved the day. I found one on eBay for $55. & free shipping. Also, on eBay, found a good used load range E, 10 ply tire with about half the tread left for $65., & free shipping.. Together it all cost about $200. Have RV coverage with AAA, so someone else can put it on, if needed.

Please post a link to the tire carrier. The hitch mount I'm considering is $525

Doing this was not an option on our 25.5 because of plumbing for toilet in right rear corner of the coach. The "hidden" 2nd black dump valve is located where you have your spare. Suspect same would apply to any models with rear passenger side commodes.

Hi OldChief
That is the same one that I am using on my 2018 Siesta. I did buy the anti rattle clamps for the hitch to keep the wheel and hitch from moving around while driving. You might want to consider getting that also. The curt tire hitch needed it since there was a bit of play in the connection.

Did you have the coach weighed after installation of the spare to make sure you were nor over weight on the rear?

The rim weighs about 30 pounds and the tire weighs about 35 pounds. Total weight is about 65 pounds plus the hitch. The hitch is rated at 300 pounds. It shouldn't be an issue. I plan on getting the rv weighed at the next cat scale I come across.

No, haven't had it weighed but as Paul said, above, I seriously doubt its an issue. Whole thing, the the mount, tire & wheel, cable combo bike lock and lockable hitch pin to keep things from 'walking away' and the cover all together weigh under 75 lbs.

I put one underneath somewhat like taylorbob1 did, I like the one like old_chief has on the hitch for ease of access, but ours is a toy hauler with a ramp door in the back!

After reading your post, and seeing a stranded mh on I-95 with a shredded tire, I decided to add a spare tire to ours. Contacted tire dealer only to hear that our tire is on a national back order, and not currently in production. Went to FMCA website and got a list of Michelin dealers in our area. Luckily found one at the second dealer I called. Lesson here is don't wait until last minute.

Hello Everyone, I believe in having a spare. I started looking at carriers like Oldchief and others have. The situation with the 25.2 Vegas is that the slide comes out the rear. I found that underneath there was plenty of room for a carrier behind the fuel tank and to the right of the genset. I fabricated a carrier and mounted it to the chassis. I went to a junkyard and got the winch for the spare tire off of a F350. Here are a few pics.

Spare tire option for Axis 25.2 Units
Just another option for 25.2 owners, or others, who do not wish to mount spare tire under unit.
Pull one pin to clear storage door and slide. Pull second pin to lay spare on ground. Already posted in this thread
Thor Forums - View Single Post - doesn't anyone carry a spare tire anymore?

Bottle jack
Sockets with a breaker bar
Those that have hydraulic levelers can use those instead of a jack.
