You're correct that trucks and most RV chassis are not known for having compliant suspensions. Unfortunately, many of the "fixes" and "upgrades" often recommended will make suspensions even less complaint, thereby adding to harsher ride on some roads.
Stiff suspensions work acceptably on race cars driven on fairly smooth tracks, but they don't lend themselves to rougher surfaces. Suspension tuning is a compromise.
