cell phone booster

We do a lot of camping at coe campgrounds that are usually out in the country. Does anyone use cell phone booster in their TV? If so are you pleased with it and where did you buy it. Ive heard some are great and also that none of them will work in an rv.

Here's my post about installing a cell phone booster from the long mods thread. Still have not tested it out of my driveway.

Quote:
Just installed a Weboost Drive 4G-M in my 24.1. Seems to work really well in my driveway - boosted the signal by 5-15 db and seemed to really increase data transfer speeds.

Here's what I did:
- Attached a 8x16" metal plate to the top of the fridge vent cover for a ground plane.
- Ran the outside antenna cord down the fridge vent and into the little closet next to the fridge
- Mounted the signal booster in the cabinet above the bed next to the closet.
- Mounted the internal antenna next to the drawers below the closet. I first had the antenna up higher, but that caused interference between the internal and external antennas (not enough metal in the rv).

What provider do you have? We have Verizon & have been coast to coast border to border & there have only been a couple spots that we didn't have service without any booster. I don't get any compensation from any provider, but have had a couple different ones that a couple cans & a string would have been better.

I have Verizon too and agree that the coverage is great. What we hope to do is watch some streaming Netflix on the road and that takes some bandwidth. My driveway is a great example: for some reason I get crappy download speeds but with the booster I could watch video. But I need to get camping and test it more.

We use a Wilson Sleek with mag ant on the Truck, works great for those places you can't get Verizon; which is about 30% of the places we camp. Even with the booster though sometimes there isn't any cell coverage.

Even if I used a booster, the data plan we have from Verizon is not enough to stream video, WAY too expensive, we have 18g of data & can't afford any more. Most parks don't have enough bandwidth on their Wi-Fi to stream movies & most don't allow it. That's odd that 30% of the places you go had no service, for us maybe 1% don't.

You can turn down the streaming rate on Netflix to ~.3 Gb/hour. So 15gb gets you ~50 hours/month netflix - more than I need.

Here's some pics of my cell phone booster installation:

Pic 1 - shows the antenna and metal mounting plate.
Pic 2 - booster and transformer mounted in right cabinet above bed. I ran the wire down the fridge vent, then across the back of the wardrobe.
Pic 3 - 12V power plug and internal antenna

Hey Cosmo,

Are you happy with the 4G-M over the 4G-X? How close does the cell phone need to be to the inside antenna? I use a T-Mobile hot spot with Binge-On for Netflix and data and use Verizon for cell phone. Trying to decide what to do next.
Thanks for the info.

I recently bought the Weboost 4G RV. I won't be able to test it until my next trip in September. But in my office, it showed a gain of 24dB. The RV version is the same as the M version, but has a directional antenna. A directional antenna will give you better gain than an omni-directional that comes with the M. There is even a website that will give you the direction of the closest tower for your carrier.

Ok, where do you go to turn down the Netflix stream? I have looked, but must be missing it

Go to "Your Account", "Settings", "My Profile", "Play Back Settings". You will see "Auto", "Low", "Med" and "High" check boxes.

It seems OK - most times a 10db improvement , but I do have to be very close to the antenna. So I mounted the hotspot right next to it. No experience with any other models.
