Smile Storage compartment lock replacement

Has anyone changed the outside storage compartment locks from the standard locks (and keys) to different ones? If so, where did you purchase them? I see that, in addition to the normal flat keys, there are ones that are cylinder types. Is there any advantage to this type. Any advice is welcome -- especially vendors to avoid. Thanks, Mark

Try these. They have the barrel keys. They will also keep your order on file so if you order more locks at another time they can match the key you currently have.

Locks with the flat keys are pretty much useless, one key fits all, proved it to someone in the campground by unlocking the storage bins of 4 different coaches with my key. I ordered cylinder locks from Amazon which were all keyed alike. (Ended up with about 20 keys that fit every lock). Took about 5-10 minutes to change each lock, great morning or afternoon project.

SuperD, did you find a cylinder lock to fit the outside shower door? I replaced all the "flat" key locks, except for that one...

I recently changed out my locks for a couple reasons. One to limit the amount of keys to carry and two so that they aren't the same key as the majority of all the other RV's. I used RVlocks.com They were very good about answering questions I had and when I placed my order it was shipped quickly. The locks appear to be high quality.

No, I didn’t replace that lock. Since the barrel of that lock is very short the cylinder locks I purchased were to long for the shower door. Figured there wasn’t much to steal there so didn’t mess with it.

I have a more basic question, how do you know the lock/cam/etc lock detail? i tried asking Thor customer service but that was useless.

They're basic standard RV storage compartment locks - available on millions of RVs since the 60s.

I just did this. One thing you may find is the locks lack a dust cover unless you add those to your order. The key has a dust cover latch like the locks of old and one key opens them all (at least most).

I also found, on this rig, that locks make no difference in securing your contents. Look up and behind your panels, where you can, before you decide locks are important.

I'd second guess the mention of the shower door but if the wallet doesn't mind, you shouldn't either.

Locks keep honest people out.

Measure the length of the cylinder barrel and the diameter, this will tell you what size to order.

This is the standard 751 key cam lock that THOR uses on most of their low to medium grade rigs (including my Vegas)...

On our 5th wheel we replaced all the locks with these combination locks which were much better. I didn't have to worry about always having a key with me and you can set the combination to whatever you want.

Yes! I have replaced both the entry door and 2 bay doors with remote keyfob + keypad locks from RVLocks.com. I have been very happy with their products and with their service.

My entry door lock bolts were just a fraction too short to fit the door jamb and I was unable to use a hex key to turn them to the right length (no man hands in my house).
They emailed a prepaid label for me to ship them back. They lengthened it for free and overnighted it back to me. That's *unbelievable* service.

It was very easy to replace the lock, took less than 10 minutes. Now I have one clicker that independently unlocks the door and the bays. Love it!! I also can use my own code on the keypad if I don't have the fob.

The 751 key has been the "standard" key for tons of RV storage compartments for many years. It was in use when I bought a popup in 1978, and four subsequent rigs as recently as 2016. They were also used on storage cabinets on my job. Which means that there are probably several million of those keys in circulation.

Thankfully my 2019 MH does not use the 751.

I had mine replaced at the Forest River Rally in Elkhart 2 years ago. I don't remember who the vendor was, but they keyed the storage compartments to the same key as my door key. Now I have one key to open everything. You might contact Forest River or FROG to get the vendors name.
