Sumo Springs SSF-106-40 Install

Follow the simple instructions. Look for the OE rubber bumper held in with a 10mm self tapping bolt.




Simply screw in Sumo Spring into same hole as tight as you can by hand.

Following all safety protocols, It took me 40 mins, because I had to jack up each side separately. It was extremely easy, because I read these posts and watched a few YouTube videos. Haven’t driven it yet, but will update post in a month or two.

I installed mine a month ago. Big improvement. You will like them. I assume you did the rears also?

I have not done the rears. I don’t feel comfortable enough with the install. First question sanjuan2, are they worth $500 plus? Second, did you install or have a professional do it? If you did installation, did you have to drill holes in the frame?

Have the Mercedes sprinter chassis and the rears were not very expensive, I do not recall the exact amount. Install took about 15 minutes per side.No drilling required. Let us know what model you have. Maybe some one with your model will chime in.

Just started researching installing SSR-106-40-1 on my rear suspension. After deciding I could do it, I discovered a bracket welded onto each side of my frame right where the Sumo Springs would mount on my Vegas 25.4. Very sad [emoji20]

I dont have sumos on my Axis but IMO I think they will do you the most good on the front of our RV's.... Esp. since the front is coil springs.

I think it will make the rear ride rough and since it not an easy install on your model and they cost so much.... IMO your better off with a rear sway bar or track arm.

I like the way mine handles with the front sway bar and rear track arm. I might install new shocks next year - from what I read they wil help the overall ride quality.

We literally discovered the same issue with the bracket on our 2017 24.1 today after dropping it off for the rear Sumo installation. Trying to figure out which part number will work, but appears to be SSR-130-54.

I checked into getting the sumo springs for the front and rear of my thor vegas and it looks to cost about $1000 for parts and labor.
Overall driving the rv has not been too difficult for me but I do notice the zway when a 18 wheeler drives by and the RV does rock a bit when we are stationary and somebody's walking inside.
Do people think thats reasonable and worth doing?

My fronts were $156, I just ordered the rears for $229. The fronts took less than an hour, but in a shop with experience it could be a 15-20 min job max! Rears will take me an hour, but should be a 30 minute job for an experienced person in a shop.

Haven’t received them yet, but they should replace the stock bump stops like the front. Wish I’d known none of the Sumos with the bracket will work on the Axis/Vegas despite what Sumo and their website says. That was an expensive mistake.

The correct Sumos for our 24.1 cost $154 front and $230 rear, after 25% coupon code “sumosizeme”. Labor on front was 1/2 hour and should be about the same on rear.

Mac Springs out in S.Cali Hooked up our Gemini with a Custom heavy duty leaf spring and it changed dramatically.

The fronts were easy, didn't really have to put myself in danger. The rears were a different story. I jacked it up and put jack stands under it and barely fit under the chassis (big gut). I was scared sh**less the whole time I was under that thing. In the end it was worth it.

Just finished my SSR 130-54 rear SumoSprings install. It took me 1.5 hours, because I was in an RV park with a small bottle jack and a stand. This is the drivers side with weight on axle. Always do this side first, because it has a longer bolt to accommodate securing the brake line bracket.

Then do the the passenger side, which has the exhaust to work around.

The last picture shows the passenger side with weight on the axle.

If a person is mechanically inclined, has the right tools and doesn’t mind getting a little dirty, this is a job that you can do. If you do it at a home shop, this should be a 45 minute job, no problem.

I got the 3 ton jack from costco and the 3 ton jack stands from Harbor Freight and just installed the front sumo springs on my 2018 Thor vegas 24.1. A huge improvement. I can corner much better and the whole RV doesnt feel like its tipping over. when cornering. Well worth it, and now i have am comfortable jacking up the RV. It took me about 45 min to do, mostly because i re-positioned the jack a few times.

I am interested to see what people think about doing the rear axle and how they feel about the change in driving characteristics from just doing the rear sumo springs.
