Thor ACE High Pitch Wind Noise SOLVED

I have been having a high-pitch wind noise sound from my ACE 29.2. I've searched everywhere for a solution and tried multiple items, including 4 cans of spray foam in every gap I could find, sealing windows, trying every suggested solution.

Found the problem and solved it.

The front grill is the problem. I removed it and did a test drive and she was super quiet and I almost cried.

Called Thor, they suggested a fix of sealing all the half-exposed square holes around the perimeter where the grill met the fiberglass body. Spent too much time sealing and taping - here are pics of my crappy fix.

Didn't work. And it's ugly too.

So here's how I fixed it - bought a new grill from an online site and replaced it. Nice black metal grill. Looks really nice installed. Here are pics.

If you have struggled with this problem and been driven nuts by the high pitch squeal like me, try this solution. I can probably share the site I bought the new grill material from if someone wants to know.

Hope this helps someone else out there struggling to find a solution.

We purchased our grill material from

www.customcargrills.com

We ordered this material:
Perf_Hex_B24 24in. x 60in. Perforated Hex Grill Mesh Sheet - Gloss Black

It came in a sheet and I had to trim it a little, but not much.

We had the same problem with our Windsport. I called Thor and they sent the grill material for free. Before I received the grill material I adjusted the engine hatch for a better fit, that actually stopped the noise on our coach.

Comes as a sheet and fit right in.

This worked for me anyway.

Thanks to all for the great information. The weird thing about my 30.2 is that it only has the high pitched whistle when it's wet and above 50 mph. But now I have a direction to go to solve the problem.

50 mph was the magic speed for our Windsport too!

Yeah ours was around 50mph, depending on the wind and wet, but the grill is definitely the problem. And I'm not convinced that the fixes or replacement grills from Thor are any better. Some people have replaced with a grill provided by Thor only to still have the sound, and you think maybe it wasn't the grill - it is. Try this one we put in, you've not much to lose.

Our noise was from the poorly adjusted engine hood, after adjusting for a better fit noise was gone. I went ahead and got the mesh grill fro Thor to act a a rock guard, just in case, plus it was free!

Crazy that this is trending on my first visit here. We just purchased our ACE 30.2 Friday and it whistled for the entire ride home (4 hours). Also had the back ceiling to wall corner section fall off on the way.

Removed grill for rainy drive home from last trip. Blissful quiet. "Old style" grill coming from Thor. Dealer will install. If it works, great. If not I will order and install grill that CO Thor 29.2 used. I really like the look of that grill, but can't pass on free, right now. If it works, anyway.

Dealer installed grill from Thor. Looks just like the grill that CO Thor 29.2 installed on his ACE. I'm supposed to get the ACE back on Monday. First wet day I'm headed for the freeway to see if it worked.

High Pitch?

I don't know if I'm experiencing the same thing or not but....
I have greatly diminished high frequency hearing loss so things sound a little different to me or I don't hear them at all. What I'm hearing is first of all infrequent and it sounds more like the G note on a flute rather than what I would consider a high frequency whistling. I thought the first time I heard it it was road noise. In any event it's driving me whacko every time it happens so if you all could perhaps weigh in if you think this is what I'm hearing I'd appreciate it. Thanks

So our ACE 30.2 new never been on a trip coach has been in the shop for 6 weeks for a transfer switch and the high pitched noise. Not sure why it takes them so long. I leave next Friday for a 2 weeks trip and the new grill from Thor has not made it to the shop yet. They say they transfer switch will be ready in time. Anything I can do for this trip to stop the noise until I get back and hopefully new grill is here? I guess removing it might be a back idea?

I heard putting a piece of heavy duty screening behind the grill helps you can zip tie it on
