TV Antena

I have a 2018 Vegas and TV reception is hot and cold, even when my RV is in basically in the same area. Is the antenna that is furnished with the Vegas pretty much the same as what is available to purchase? If not, what are some products that are available? I am not interested in purchasing a dish subscription.

We predownload 'free' movies and series from the internet and Amazon and Netflix onto a phone and watch them on whichever TV we cast to.
No delays, no signal drift and we can replay or stop when we want without commercials.
Until you get into some unreasonable expense, drift is drift. It's going to happen on OTA.

The antenna on your Vegas is from adequate to pretty good.
$300 won't buy you a very noticeable difference.

You could always purchase a signal strength meter to align your antenna to gain the most strength. like this one. https://smile.amazon.com/Winegard-RF...8559100&sr=8-7

Oh, and make sure your booster is turned on for OTA.

Soooo, what antenna do you have now?

Digital TV is great, until it isn't.
One of the advantages of digital TV is the ability to produce a good picture without snow down to a very weak signal. But once the signal falls below that minimum threshold, fuugetaboutit! And that threshold can be crossed just due to a slight change in atmospheric conditions. Many times we have watched a channel with no problems until about 10 PM but then it starts pixelating and freezing and then is gone completely/ It may come back in a half hour or be gone for the night or come in and go out continuously.

The small omni directional antenna from Winegard is a piece of junk. While it works fine for urban campgrounds, it does not have the range of the old bat wing style crank up type. It is mostly plastic and when it breaks the manufacturer will not honor the warranty. To get OTA TV out in the boonies, I bought a flag pole buddy and a couple of sections of light weight tubing along with a cheap Amazon special antenna with booster. I ran a second cable that terminates in the battery box of my Hurricane. It takes minutes to set up and we've been able to pull in channels from almost 100 miles.

Do you have any pictures of that "100 mile" antenna?

I have dish and it's only 7 dollars a month. If you turn it off when not using it it's only the time using it a few dollars

In my 2016 Thor Axis 24.1 there's two switches in the cabinet above the sink. One is obviously a signal amplifier with a green light for"on". The other is a Winegard switch. I have a DISH antenna but have not hooked it up yet to a receiver so don't know if the Winegard switch goes to that or another amplifier.
Any suggestions or solutions??

On my 2020 Outlaw, the cable hooks up right next to the 50 amp power receptacle inside the power cord compartment. I have never tried mine.

I was reading As far as distance is concerned, getting reliable UHF DTV reception beyond the curvature of the earth (approximately 70 miles) is difficult. Terrain has a major impact on reception. Going over water is the best-case-scenario since water is generally flat and has positive impacts on temperature for sending the signal along. That being said, beyond 70 miles, unless you can get direct line-of-sight to the transmitters, obstacles which impact reception negatively are inevitable.

Less bulky antenna that works!

https://store.antennasdirect.com/Cle...V-Antenna.html

The very same issues apply to home use antennas. I live on the west coast of Florida. The above unit from Antennas Direct has worked out very well for me at home as it receives 60 or 70 over the air stations. The reason I mention it here is that it is considerably less bulky than the massive long reach antenna style that has been around forever. I also prefer it because birds don't care to roost on it and therefor don't leave their "blessings" all over my house. If a RV camper somehow mounted this high in the air (such as with a trailer hitch flag mount) I believe it would do a great job of pulling in stations and still be reasonable to store away in a compartment. Take care, ya'll!

I was at a campground and there was a bunch of big trees in line with the towers and reception was terrible. It really hurts having obstacles in the way, I even put up one of those home antennas with an amplifier, still bad reception 20 miles away. http://www.amazon.com/Channel-Master...25469-2323804?

And it never hurts to have a selection of favorite DVDs or good books along for those rainy evenings when there is poor TV and WiFi reception. I find I read much more when we travel than I ever do at home!
