Upgrade My Microwave

I would like to upgrade the microwave on my 2015 Hurricane 34e It currently is a standard black under cabinet unit....I would like to put in a nice convection microwave unit...., So, are they just a standard home microwave? And if so....do I just measure the dimensions of the currently installed one, and go to Lowes or such, and find a comparable sized unit? Appreciate the help!
Cheers, Tom

Tom,
Our Challenger was supposed to have a Whirlpool convection microwave, but was shipped with a standard one. Thor shipped us a convection to replace it, but initially wasn't sure they had one in stock. They were going to send us a check to purchase one on our own, so we checked the model number and found the exact model on sale at Home Depot. The mounting was exactly the same as the standard microwave. It was the same width and height, but the depth was a little longer. However, it fit perfectly without any modifications.
You might check the manufacturer web site to see if they offer a similar model as you have in a convection. It took us a few hours to swap it out, but are very pleased with the result. Good luck.

It is an easy mod. I suggest before buying a new conv/micro that you remove the old one before measuring. In the Forest River Class Cs we found that the face frame around the cabinet housing the microwave could be trimmed about 1/2 to 3/4 inch on both sides and the top thereby substantially increasing the number of new model selections (based on size) that would work for the conversion.

Also, by removing the old one before purchasing the new, you can decide if you would like to vent the new to the outside. Thor should be able to provide you with the sidewall diagrams so you can determine what is in the wall behind the micro.

Thanks Dave, yes, I think that's what I will do. I believe Nurserx vented his, and he has a very similar hurricane to mine.
