USB Port Blew Up

Hi All,

I bought this cigarette /USB outlet from auto part and attach it to the house battery via the 2 wires that supply electricity to the light bulb.

As soon as I turn on the house battery switch, the USB port blew up (the cigarette port is ok).

Note that this comes with red and black wires, which mean positive (red) and ground( black), while the wires for the light bulb are black (ground or negative?) and white (positive). I connect the red to the white, and the black to the black. Is that a correct wiring?

My house battery is 12V. I checked, and it actually has only 10 volts. My guess is that the amps are too strong.

Any recommendation?

Thanks

In your picture the cigarette plug works but the USB shorted out? Is the new outlet a single 12 volt positive and a ground install? If that is the case sounds to me like the USB outlet has a short

Also only way to verify chassis positive is with a 12 volt test light or multimeter. The white being hot and black being ground is a logical assumption BUT this is a MH and assuming anything will make an A$$ of U and me...

Thanks for reply.

I think the problem is solved. I has read the information on the Internet, and every articles I read saying that the white wire supporting the electric to the light bulb is hot wire. It turns out that it is the negative wire, and the black is the hot wire.

And I have connect backward the wires, as MJC62 has mentioned.
