Absolutely, MPG makes a difference, and it becomes more obvious if you plan a 1,000-mile trip or longer.
That’s one reason van campers have become more popular lately. Most should be able to get 16 MPG easily if driven like a motorhome (60~65 MPH) and a “few” can get close to 20 MPG on gasoline if driven at moderate speeds.
RV size matters more than engine upgrades like OP wanted to discuss. It’s OK to want a large and roomy RV, but expect a guzzler not a sipper.
