Vent Hoods - yes/no
Yes, another question ^^^^ there. These seems like a good solution. I have done some research on these and reviews say they don’t last much more than a couple of years and crumble across various brands. Your experience and comments are appreciated.
Thanks
JJ

Are you talking about covers for the 14"x14" vents? Never had one crumble. They should last at least as long as the plastic on the ACs.

Yes, like the MaxxAir vent covers, that allows to have roof vent open while driving and parked and no rain gets in.

Yeah, I've always added those to all my RVs. As I said; I have not had any issues.

No issues here either, the last ones were on the rig 15 years when I traded it in.

On our old 5er we had both 14" x 14" vents crumble. At about the 8 year mark a hail storm one day just shattered them all after years of being blasted with UV.
Ended up replacing both of them with Fantastic Fans.

We put MaxAir II's on our Outlaw, and they worked just tine...
We'll be adding them to our new rig also.

I have the original Max Air on my 2018 MH that was installed on my 2000 Starcraft, 2011 Palomino, and 2013 Cougar. That equals about 18 years of use and over 150,000 travel miles. It's been subjected to air temps of -16 during the winter here and 110 and higher in Vegas 2 or 3 times.

Yes. We had our dealer install a Max Air in the front and vent covers on all 3 vents as part of the deal. I'm a major fresh air fan but don't like getting rained on Our last RV didn't have any and it could get stuffy if I had to close things up.

I had one taht was brittle after 2-3 years. It wasn't broken but was easy to crack when I removed it once. I certainly would prefer to have that thing take the bulk of the uv damage and be sacrificial to the hail than the actual vent lid. In fact, I regret installing the maxxair maxxfan on the front vent in my rig for that very reason. I regular cover doesn't fit over it very well....
My thought at the time was that the lower profile when down would look so much better since it's so close to the front edge...and the larger one might even tend to be more noisy in the wind. Now, I wish I'd have done a more traditional fan with a seperate cover. Otherwise the Maxxfan is fine though....

Do not buy the Camco Brand. I have lost 2...one after the first year and the second one lasted 2 1/2 years. Both of them cracked where attached to the mounting bolts and simply blew off. One while going down the hiway and the other while camped in windy conditions.
I will next try Maxair Brand. I had that on my old RV and lasted until the day I traded it off.

I think that you're right: the Brand that you buy will make a huge difference in your results.

now that you mention it...I'm pretty sure it was a camco that failed on mine.
Another option...I put a fantastic fan cover on the other vent and it looks like it's holding up much better. I liked the design because it's made to allow full opening of the vent...although honestly I don't think it matters all that much...but here's a video that illustrates the design benefit

I had a set of vent covers on our last TT for over 10 years and no problems. Sold it that way, and they are still in great condition.
