Propane Storage Door

Has anyone changed the propane storage door latch , to a locking latch, is it safe?

Thoughts

They are non-locking for a reason - safety. For easy access by emergency personnel to secure the propane valve in the event of an accident.

Thanks. I thought it must have been a safety issue.

Its a good compartment to hide a key as well due to being unlocked. Place a magnetic box on the backside of the tank just in case...

Not to hijack the thread, but I have hidden a key for just the basement compartments. It is wired to the frame in an obscure location that makes it difficult to find and pretty awkward to access. Even if a BG found it she would have a time figuring out which compartment had the rest of the keys - door, ignition and towed - stashed. I lost a key once far from home and I don’t want to do that again!

Is this thread about hiding spare keys?

I hid my extra set, from ignition key & fob to outside compartments key, in the drawer just past the stove in the RV.
In case I lose one while away with the RV, the extras are with us!

Keypad added

I added a keypad in the propane bin. There are after-market key-pads for Ford products. Don’t know about the manufacturers.

I believe for safety reasons the propane access door should not lock.

Don't feel bad. I did that with $6000 20 years ago and still have not found it.

Propane storage doors don’t have locks for a reason.

Just another bit of advice. If you lock the propane door to keep out thieves, better they take the gas, than chance damage to your RV.
