When do you fill your propane tanks?

Dry camping the fridge runs on propane, stove and furnace too so if I know we will be staying in Forest Service Campgrounds or National Parks without hook ups I fill propane before we head out.

I just filled my propane tank at a local U-Haul rental near my house. They sell propane 7 days a week or if I am on the road in it, I fill it at the campground where I am staying at the time if needed.

Several of our nearby Ace stores have LP. Have filled at that big camping store with initials CW. They used to have a discount for Gd Sam members, but I'd check before I went there for anything!

We like to use Costco. Pull right up to the filling station. The guy walks right out to fill it up. Wife takes the ticket inside and buys that giant ready-to go Taco Kit and a few other meals that are already prepped and we are good for the entire weekend.

I’ve never had a propane level indicator that was worth the powder to blow it to h*ll. What may show 1/4 full in the morning, may show closer to 1/2 in the heat of the afternoon. I refill before each trip out when possible - otherwise, I use the 1/4 mark as my “empty” and get it filled at that point.

When mine starts on the downside of 1/2 full/empty I start thinking of refill. In the winter I let the truck that fills the propane here at home top off the RV at the same time.

In the summer I just drive up to the propane company's bulk fill station and they top off the RV and I drive off. This is especially true if I leaving due to an incoming hurricane!

Either way I get great service and a EOM bill at the prevailing gallon rate. Right now it's about $2.75.

We fill ours about once a year, usually in the spring. We use heat several times a year, and the fridge and water heater. As long as it is about 1/8 or more, don't worry about it.
There is a huge spread in prices. Paid $2.49 at a truck stop lately.

I have a 24ft Class c Thor Citation on the Mercedes. It seems to take a long time for our propane to go low. We do not use the generator. Just for heat and refrig when under way. I like to keep it full when ever we go out. Fill it up where you know a good spot that charges a reasonable amount. Howard 1257

We just returned from a 5 week RV tour of the Grand Circle route and all of the National Parks. Most of the campgrounds we stayed in were over 7000 ft.
I began having problems with my propane at those altitudes. The oven wouldn't light. The fride would not run on gas, and no gas hot water. At first it though gas system was empty, but that was not the case, i still had 1/3 tank of propane. There didn't seem to be enough pressure in the system at those altitudes to supply the gas appliances.(makes sense now Boyles law) I had the tank filled to tne max allowable pressure. Problem solved. The system will not push enough gas at altitude when 1/3 full. If you're camping at sea level 1/4 should be fine, but as you go up in altitude you'll need to keep the tank over 1/3 full. it was our first extended trip in our rv and I learned so much on this trip

I never had that problem, and we have camped at 10,000 feet plus, lots of times.
