Wifi for smart tv

Has anyone added wifi to the av system to stream video from iPad/phone to smart tv's?
The router/switch will not have an internet connection.
Thoughts

Why do you need an extra "WIFI System"? Just make your phone a hotspot and connect your TV to it?

We often have 3-5 grandkids with us. On our laptop we have a number of kids movies or download new movies from ITunes. There are a couple of apps on the Roku or Firestick TV that will connect your laptop directly to either of these devices to stream from your laptop to the TV. If you have movies on Amazon, you can stream them directly to your TV via a Wifi connection. Hope this helps.

We ended up with an extra Apple TV module when we upgraded. I installed it in the RV and even though it's not hooked to the internet it still works great for streaming pics and video off the Ipad/Laptop. All Apple products.

We have a Fire TV in our rv as well and would also like to setup WIFI. The problem with using your phone as a hot spot is that even with an unlimited data plan you are limited to using data when you use the phone as a hotspot. Streaming video uses alot of data and you will quickly reach your limit.

Where we go no phone service. Usually turn them off. Battery drain looking for signal. Samsung tv needs a wifi device to stream to it. I'll try firestick this weekend to see if that helps.
Thanks for the thoughts

We have been very happy with AT&Ts Mobley module that plugs into our OBD II port. For $20 a month We have unlimited wifi throughout the RV. We don't even think about it any more, it's always on.

I suppose if you travel somewhere that AT&T is not available, then it wont work.

The ATT Mobley WAS a great buy for the unlimited plan. You can still buy the Mobley but as we understand the $20 per month is no longer as an option.

We added a tablet to our Verizon Unlimited Plan for $20 a (costs $189 initially) and use it as a hotspot in our coach.

PS: With many of the Android LTE smartphones, you can make calls at the same time you are sharing the hotspot.

We got a Mobley last month and got the $20 per month deal. BTW, it works great.

If you install a wireless router and don't connect it to the Internet any "streaming" will have to be from a local device which has it's own Internet connection, or from a device with the video/movie file on it.

I assumed you just trying to get your phone and TV connected together to "Miracast" to your TV.

I'm not sure devices like Amazon's Firestick or Google's Chromecast will work without an Internet connection, even if you are just trying to "miracast" to them.

Sounds like the OP is NOT looking for an internet connection - just a network within the RV...
Easy to do... I used an old wireless router I had and set up a network in the RV... I did at times connect it to internet (via a Picostation WIFI unit) - but used it within the RV for file sharing, wireless printing... no reason it couldn't be used from streaming from one device to another...
Most routers run on 12v - so connected directly to coach power - no need for AC to run the network...

If internet is needed - Mobley WAS a great buy... but now appears the unlimited plan supporting it is $90/month...
I didn't have a cell with unlimited data to use...
DW's phone has unlimited data - but is 3G (which doesn't allow simultaneous voice/data) and provider doesn't allow hotspot.
Mobley fit the bill quite nicely - and at $20 a month moves between RV, car, and my detached workshop (which was WIFI range challenged) as needed.

Note that this is only a Verizon limitation (Verizon's old CDMA network could not handle simultaneous voice & data. Other networks did not have any issues--like AT&T's GSM network could handle such things.)

No signal
No internet connection
Was trying to find a foolproof way to stream content from iPad/phone to smart tv that requires wifi connection weather it has signal or not.

I have an old AirPort Extreme I'll give it a try
Thanks

Most of the parks we go to, limit data on their WiFi, so you really can't stream. I can using phone or tablet at a hotspot, but data becomes a problem very quickly. There are a few, very few, parks that do not limit data and streaming works ok, but they are few and far between.

If the movies/ video are previously downloaded while on wifi use a bluetooth receiver connected to tv. Stream from ipad/android via bluetooth. No wifi needed.

Use one of our old phones strictly as a hotspot. For 20.00 a month it is unlimited.

A ScreenBeam mini 2 works fine. No WIFI needed. Simply download movies to mobile device. When needed stream to TV via Bluetooth.

If I am not mistaken that product does not work with iPhones. Only windows and android.
