[emoji26]General RV rant

End of January we purchased 31w Four Winds Class C from General RV Ocala Florida. Sales associate Stan Creel was awsume. The rest of the process went from bad to worse
We have been waiting since then for a new window for the coach since 1st of February. Have been told 4 times window has been shipped. Location for installation of window has been changed to 4 locations still no window.Latest shipping date April 22. This whole experience is unacceptable.

New?
Used?
What's wrong with the window?
Did you find this forum before your purchase?
Do you have the rv or is it on their lot?
If it's a new RV, go to ANY Thor service and get it fixed.

Help us help you.

Why isn't your salesman handling this?
I've seen many a fistfight/pushing contest between sales man and service guys.
The sales guy can call the supplier just as easily as thebservice department can.

With limited parts coming down the supply chain, which would you expect Thor to do:

1. Build another $100,000+ coach, or

2. Satisfy your warranty claim?

Get the PO number from the dealer and call Thor.

General RV Ashland failed to order parts for my rig for over 3 months and lied the entire time.

Contact General RV Customer Care. We dealt with Lindsey Estep lestep@generalrv.com Ph. 248-662-9967 Ext. 7616

Also, if under warranty send Thor the official notice by certified mail. Reasonable time, reasonable number of attempts.

Wouldn't that be the same thought process as... There's a huge garden in my neighbors back yard. Why bother going to the grocery when I can "get" my vegetables next door? For "free".

No... we don't do that because it's unethical. And we were taught by our parents NOT to take advantage of people in situations like that.

Some will say that's naive and get real... EVERYONE does that. Sorry, not me. There's a time when doing THE RIGHT THING has it's place. To me, THIS is one where this applies.

We don't know enough to know right from wrong on this.
Bought used and out of warranty?
This is a clip on the window screen and the op is wrong about 'window'.?

Right now we know little except there is a communication problem.

My drivers window needed a gasket and cw tried for 8 months to get one. I called Thor and they sent me the window in two days. I took it over to CW and told them to put it in. If I had waited for them I would never get fixed. Just as winter came They put in a new water tank and tested it for leaks and I took it home and re-winterized. It sat till yesterday and I took blue paper shop towels and put them under the connections and when the tank was half full it was leaking, it goes back in next week. Good luck

I will give the OP the benefit of the doubt in knowing what is wrong with their rig especially since the work will require a window installation shop.

The
Four installers
Is part of my
'What? We need more info' concern.

I can't imagine the dealer calling four times just to say:
'The window we don't have will now be installed on an unknown day by this company who doesn't have the window'.
Or
Did the op show up at four different locations just to be turned away each time?

Any window but the windshield is a handyman type, in your driveway by a mobile shop, job.

(My big ol' 24.1 windshield took 8 days to delivery the first order, the installers broke it before it could be installed and the replacement came in 11 days.)

I've read ALL of the op's posts. I based my need for more info on more than just this one post.

You can always call Thor MC customer service. With your VIN number; they can track any shipment made in the last 11 years against the VIN. Maybe then you will know the rest of the story.

But if it is a Huge Garden, why is it unethical. This is no different than all of the rich folks with hundreds of thousand dollar RV's; why would they care if someone took there Cat Converter? I mean don't they all have insurance

I have brand new Ryobi Electric Self - Propel Lawnmower, the front hub caps keep falling off. When I call Ryobi Support they said they could not promise me when the replacement parts would be available to ship, so they recommended I return the Mower back to Home Depot and get a new one

I am gonna mow the lawn with one hup cap off one more time, clean it up, wax and return it I hope I am not being unethical.

I sure hope we hear back from OP, but let's assume the window had a big 12' diameter hold in it? I don't think I blow the RV Dealer I bought from away because of that? I would pick my battles. But since OP is in Ohio and Dealer in Florida it may not matter as he will never need them again. But beating up on new dealer is why so many dealer refuse to service RV's not bought from them.

Wrong. GRV has multiple locations so the residential location vs purchase location has no bearing on the issue. The purchaser can take the rig to any GRV location for service to include the location in Ohio.

Agreed that I was wrong about not knowing or catching the fact that GRV has location in Ohio. Understand I have never even seen a GRV Dealer so I know nothing of them. But given they are in Ohio, does that make the intent of my point stronger?

I guess I fail to understand the severity of a window issue that would make you go on the warpath (rant) with the company you bought from that also has multiple dealers to support you? Maybe it really is a big issue. Is it cracked, got a rock ding, or what. Whatever it is, seems like they are trying to fix. They don't have the part, nor does the dealer install that type of glass. Just seem like a waste to shoot the dealer over something that they don't even do? Aren't they kind of middle man?

If General RV does not have the capability they still accept the warranty repair and contract the job to a local shop that can perform the work then after complete file for reimbursement under the warranty.

General RV took 8 months to repair my slide under warranty. They repeatedly lied, yes lied on text messages about parts being ordered when they were not. Entegra told them to replace one of my cameras and cable. They, twice, failed to order the camera and that took months to get repaired.

Based on my experience with GRV the OP has every right to blame the dealer.

We don’t know what is wrong with the window but if it requires a total window replacement by a specialist I would say it is not a small matter. There have been reports of windows shattering and on another forum there were reports of warped door and window frames not properly sealing and leaking.

I purchased a new 2015 Thor Vegas 24.1 in Tampa from General RV. This year for Vegas/Axis had the huge multi=curved windshield that was prone to having cracks develop. After using the RV for 3 months I took it to have some service done at the dealer's. After finishing the paperwork the service rep and I went out to check the RV before it went into the shop. While sitting under the overhang at the entrance the RV developed a huge L-shaped crack right at the driver's eye level.

General's shop manager checked the crack and said it was a stress crack from the windshield not being installed correctly. He said it was definitely a warranty issue. He called Thor the same day. Sent them pictures by email and before I left that day, Thor had authorized replacement and had begun the paperwork to ship a new windshield.

About 1 week later, General RV in Tampa called me to say the windshield arrived. They also said since they had no trained and certified technicians to replace windshield they had called a specialist shop in Lakeland FL. The specialists were scheduled to replace the windshield Monday of the following week.

On Tuesday of the following week, General RV called and said my Vegas was ready for pickup.

I've seen lots of complaints about General RV service, but clearly my experience with their Tampa folks was exceptional.

Ed:

Would you get the same level of service in 2022 that you got in 2015? I doubt it.

The current (but probably dropping now) high demand for RVs plus supply chain shortages has changed all of this. Let's hope we soon get back to the good old days.

Well…years 2015/2016 was a heck of a lot different than 2022.
You’re comparing apples to oranges.

Disney was still the happiest place on earth back then.
Just about any part or product could be sourced & purchased & installed immediately.

Life was truly different then, only 6 years ago.
Much has changed in the past 24 months.

I agree the world has changed a lot since 6 years and of recent you damn near can't go to Disney World without some inferring a political statement. But I don't agree that all experience poor service nor a one blanket fits all rant approach. i.e. since I didn't get what I want, or expected; take it to social media to blast the entire company? I don't know GRV from Adam; so they could be the biggest rip off artists of all time as far as I am concerned, but I can go by what this OP said in this thread.

Looks like he said he had a great experience with GRV and had awesome Sales Rep. end of Jan which implies 1/31/22 but then they must have identified something with the window that needed to be replaced because he said SINCE THEN when he purchased they have been waiting for a Window. So I assume he drives back happy expecting another GRV dealer to fix his issue. But they have to get the part which we all know is a crapshoot these days and then they have to get someone to do the glass work which can be another crapshoot. Something is amiss? Is his window exposing the elements and causing some other damage or was some imperfection found on the glass? Without any of that or pictures it is really hard to say. I doubt very seriously that Thor would not help. A simple phone call with the VIN and they can tell you is window is being sent as replacement or not and where. I don't have issue with the OP being very frustrated with the fact that it is basically May and this issue was found late January. I have seen some people buy a hammer from Home Depot and blast Home Depot swearing to never buy from them again because it got shipped late If the OP cares to provide, he and only he has the wherewithal to find out EXACTLY when order was made, EXACTLY when part was in stock, EXACTLY when Shipped and EXACTLY when it will be received at the Installation facility. But that info typically never makes it back to the thread, just the social bashing of apparently a large RV dealer that OP admitted had an awesome sales process. If the next guy / gal takes to heart all of these types of rants, they will never buy an RV because if all RV Mfgs and Dealers are the same, what could they buy and who from? The attitude is don't buy from GRV, because despite the fact that I had a great sales experience;.... it took them 3 months to just get the glass I saw an issue with during PDI when I purchased

Custom Glass Solutions provides THOR with all the OEM windows. I know since I just had to have my windshield replaced. My insurance covered 100% of the cost and only has OEM glass put in. My RV repair shop has their chosen installers do the work. It only took two days in the shop and five days to get the glass to them. The cost was under $3.5k for that big wind shield at California labor rates.
