It amazes me how the price of gas can be such a big driver of sales (for both Autos & RVs). When prices are down people just run out and buy the big expensive stuff then when the prices inevitably rise back up again they are stuck.

(Note that our Axis purchase predated the current gas price drop. That also doesn't mean I'm hating filling up 50 gallons at <$2.00/gal either ! I actually love that the gas tank on the Axis is over 2X the size of the F-350 tank. Now gas stops are much less frequent--of course they also take longer LOL)

I think you misread my statement: I'm not hating filling up 50+ gallons as it means going longer between fillups.

I was so excited when gas prices were down to $2.17, I drove to the gas station 4 times to fill up three 5 gallon cans and filled up my Hurricane....figured it would not go below that price. I saved over $70.00 from the $3.84 price when I drove it home October 2014. Now the price here is down to $1.88! Oh well, the tank is full and waiting for Spring break for the drive to Naples!!

We just got back from a road trip to Southern California to visit family & friends.
Try almost $4.00 a gallon out there. Happy to be back in Colorado where gas prices are down around $2.60 a gallon.

Interesting to read this 2015 thread when gas prices were actually higher than they are today.

That said...it was announced on Inauguration Day that the Keystone Pipeline is being shut-down by the new administration (via executive order).
Thus, the US will no longer be energy independent. Which means Middle East oil imports will be necessary.
Which means the price of oil will increase, which means refined fuel prices will increase.
Additionally, the incoming Transportation Sec revealed that a Fed Gas Tax hike is desired.
So, time to anticipate increased gas prices.

Bottomline...new RVs purchased during the pandemic will quickly depreciate & many owners will become disenchanted with increased costs of RV life.

Soon will be a great time to buy a gently used RV.

Maybe. But who knows? The Keystone pipeline has not been finished so does not yet bring its 800,000 barrels a day to the US. But oil from Canada is still coming by rail and truck (far less efficiently and less “cleanly”!). Still it’s a major setback for our supply of fossil fuels. Perhaps equally important is that our new president has blocked new drilling on public land. And that the new transportation secretary is saying he is considering proposing a tax increase on gasoline. Sigh.

I have no dog in the race but was this Canadian oil being processed and used in US or being shipped to the open oil market. Just my opinion, gas prices are way too low to sustain a good US market to pay to pump US oil. Meaning you can buy on the open market cheaper than buying our home pumped oil. It’s just economics. If China is cheaper then why buy from Viet Nam or India

I think that the point of being self sufficient when it comes down to energy; is that you can pump and process your own, when the chips are down.
There's no reliance on other Countries, who don't have your best interests as their primary focus.

If you buy on the world market you don’t no where it comes from. To keep from doing that you have to produce your own. If world production is cheaper than ours it doesn’t make since to produce ours and loose money. That would be socialism

The pipeline hasn't been completed yet. Halting construction will have no effect on oil imports or prices relative to what they are now because the pipeline isn't yet being used to move oil.

FWIW, I support the pipeline, but there is value in seeing things for what they are.

You produce your own in order to guarantee supply...
Cost is a secondary consideration.
If you choose to export the home brew, and buy from foreign sources: that's just how business works. You sell for the highest possible price, and buy for the lowest.

The world price doesn’t have anything to do with what one country produces it for. It is determined by world production price and world demand

Last year was great in terms of fuel prices when it came to traveling by motohome. I know diesel is more expensive than gas but I am glad I moved to the Magnitude when I did back in later 2019. I have two takes totalling 68 gallons and I could fill up for a little over $100 and run well over 500 miles. I doubt that will be the case this season.

Fuel prices have been on the way up since November and it will start spiking even more now.

Here in Florida back in November, I was paying as low as $2.09 for diesel and $2.35 for no ethanol gas. Regurlar E10 gas was $1.95 - $2.05. By the end of December Diesel was running $2.19 - $2.49 and no ethanol gas was $2.59 - $2.79.

This weekend diesel was running from $2.49 - $2.89 and no ethanol gas was as high as $3.10. Regular E10 is $2.25 - $2.35.

As COVID winds down and poeple hit the roads later this year AND the policies of our wonderful new political leadership kick in, fuel prices will be extremely high by this time next year.... I think. I'll bet it will be $1.00 more across the board.
