Electric heater suggestions...
We’re getting ready for a shakedown cruise - just 2 nights in a local CW. I’d like to have a small safe electric heater as a backup to the propane.
Any suggestions?

We have dogs so ones with a plastic grill vs a metal one. Some of the metal ones get very hot to the touch.

After having my cheap ceramic cube heater catch on fire one day I elected to go with an oil filled “radiator” style. It’s a flat panel in a metal housing and does not get hot to touch. Mine cost about $100 at Lowe’s but I can leave it on while sleeping and not have a worry. I also wired in a dedicated outlet that I can plug into the 20A outlet on the camp pedestal and still have my usual 30A service available for regular duty.

HOME-CHOICE Small Ceramic Oscillating Space Heater Electric Portable Heater Fan For Home Office Desktop with Adjustable Thermostat Control,750W/1500W - Rotates 60°
From Amazon. Used it for two years and it is the best around. If you are a Prime guy you can have it tomorrow. It has tip over protection and the cats love it, as it is much quieter than propane.

we've found that one in particular is a good one for us, found at most W*mts... about $16, white, can either stand up or lay on it's side, has both 750w and 1500w heating settings(we use 750w only), and most importantly, has the TEMPERATURE knob wheel so that you can put it in places where you only want it to come on WHEN it really needs to, such as the water bay, etc.
I want to say that the brand in SOLEIL... easy, small, convenient, and good heat.

We use a small heater, picked up at Loews, probably five years ago or so. A couple of considerations, go for one that is very quiet, especially if you plan to use it at night, also one with a decent thermostat. We have found in the Gemini, which is a rather small RV, that small heater is about all we need down to 20 degrees or so, at least thats as cold as we have been in. Placed between the front seats, reversed when we are camped, aimed toward the rear, it heats the entire RV.

This is exactly what I am want to install next season. Looking at the present wiring of the outlets and all on one circuit, I need to do this for peace of mind. Quite simple, just run a dedicated 12AWG extension cord to a duplex (GFCI maybe?) receptacle. Be a lot safer than what I see the manufacturer has done.
Stay cool

I used a GFCI outlet originally but had to switch it back to a regular one. It seems that in most campgrounds the pedestal outlet is itself a GFCI and two of them don’t play well together. Don’t know why but it worked fine after the change. Easy mod except on my coach the electrical bay is under a slide and I didn’t want my new wiring flexing all the time so I wired through the basement to a convenient location on the curb side.

I also have a small ceramic heater and it has worked very well for 5 years. Its very quiet for sleeping and get one with the tip over switch. I got mine up here in Canada at Home Hardware but I also know Walmart has them.
