Well, we'll (now that's an interesting start for this sentence, LOL) be there, especially since we live only about 3 hours away. I would really like to meet some experienced RV'ers and here some Road Tales.

We will be arriving in Vero Beach on the 4th and leaving on the 8th. And yes Gerry, we hopefully will hang out in Florida for a while after the rally before heading North. But, unfortunately, it won’t be for the winter.

Does anyone know the area/site numbers of where the group will be staying? Also, are there any planned activities or pot luck diners scheduled so far? We have a friend that lives a few blocks towards the beach and wanted to spend some time with her while down but don't wanna miss any of the fun. Bonus...I'm a Master Chef and specialize in BBQ Pork (best you'll ever eat). If it all works out, I plan to bring smoker and furnish tons of pulled pork for everyone. Site location is a factor as I don't want to smoke any neighbors out...seems park is a bit tight. My slogan..."You Can Smell Our Butts A Mile Away".

Based on the Spring Forum rally (it was great), about a week before the rally starts the rally coordinator at the campground will pick a part of the park than has the most vacancies and designate this area as the rally site. As you arrive, you will be given a choice of the available sites. So arrive early and get the site in the center of the action. The park only guarantees a full hookup spot but not a particular spot. As this is not a vacation time or a snowbird time on the east coast, there should be plenty of sites vacant

Thanks Jim. Some of the reviews mention sites that are muddy and flood when it rains. Hopefully we won't have to deal with any of that. Any scheduled activities planned yet? I know this is an informal rally and that's a good thing by my...lots of meeting and greeting and telling tall tales!!

Mr Sunshine, Greg, really doesn't intend for there to be any prearrangements or schedule. We will gather and decide what some or all of the group wants to do. Potluck or dine out, it up to the group (love that format). This spring we had a Thor factory rep spend all day Saturday speaking, repairing, demonstrating and otherwise entertaining the group. No telling what Greg has planned, but I am up for what ever happens. You will meet the most varied group of people all with great stories and interesting mods to their coach. To me that is what a rally is all about. Yep, I would bring a tow rope it is the end of the wet season, but you never know. All the campgrounds have a good size tractor.

We might be planning a Disney World trip for early next year. You Florida guys have any suggestions on the best time to go weather and crowd wise.

If we go it would be great to join a gathering if you guys are planning one. We would plan our trip around the gathering. Would like to meet you guys.

Ive heard February is a good time to go as the crowds are not bad, well not bad as disney crowds go, I just dont know about the weather.

Any suggestions for Disney and a gathering is appreciated

Spring break is the worst -March and early April. Any national holiday will see an increase attendance. Fall and winter are the dry seasons. Spring and summer are the wet seasons. Hurricane season is June through November with the height of the season in mid September. You can look at the daily rates at Fort Wilderness (Disney campground) and see what Disney thinks are the peek periods. Traffic is horrible any time of year.

Read that Jan Feb are good times to go

Another concern is driving from So Cal to Florida in that time if year. Many states have bad weather

If we pick Feb you guys up for another rally

It does get bad around here in the winter. Last year, we had 1.8" of snow (the first since 1988 and it backed traffic on I-10 all the way to Houston). It got down to 24 degrees one morning in January. I think we had 4 nights below freezing. Makes it sort of chilly going to breakfast in the golf cart.

We're Going

Just confirmed with Kesley or reservation for the fall rally. We will be arriving on Thursday the 4th and departing on Monday the 8th. We will have an easy
1 1/2+hr. ride right down I-95 from Port Orange.

Well thanks... but Mr Sunshine is Gerry... lol
Greg does hope to be there too this time - missed the last one with just too much other travel at the time.

Any time school is in session would be good for Disney... Feb - April probably be best weather wise - not to hot or cold.
Mr Sunshine can comment on spring rally - but would guess Feb we might still have too many snowbirds in town to get a block of sites.

Fall Rally

We had so much fun at the Spring rally, but we will not be able to attend the Fall rally. October is already packed for us. Hope everyone has a great time and send some BBQ our way. Keep us updated for future rallies.

Been AWOL for awhile, so will try to catch up with the thread:

There are several factors at work in planning the best date for our rally. After several rallies, it seems that mid April and early October work best. The weather usually is more pleasant and the the snowbirds are few at those times.

We intentionally don't plan too many activities or entertainment, leaving maximum time for visiting. Can't promise a repeat of having a Thor rep appear. That was so well received last spring that it's a tough act to top. Please keep your expectations low!

By doing a potluck on Friday evening and bringing in food for Saturday evening, we keep the cost and the waste low. That also solves the transportation challenge. That's not a decision the group makes, but advance suggestions are respected. (Perhaps we'll have BBQ pork on Saturday evening!) Other meals are on your own, but spontaneous smaller groups have dined together. Dairy Queen and McDonalds are a short walk away.

The beach, restaurants and shopping are all a short drive from the fall rally campground, for those that want that. Suggest you plan to do those things on Friday or Monday if it suits you.

You don't need to know site numbers to reserve, since you are not to reserve without calling Kelsey as explained in post #1 in this thread. You'll be assigned a site # when you reserve. Reserving early will help assure that you are close. Later reservations may not be with the group, but somewhere else in the campground, if our block is full.

Hurricanes are a fact of life in Florida, and there is always a chance our plans could be washed out by nasty weather. Keep your fingers crossed. We had to reschedule the first fall rally due to a hurricane that turned out to be mild. Although the path of a hurricane can be unpredictable, there is plenty of early warning before they arrive.

Join us if you can!

Welcome, one and all!

Since our rallies are devoid of fees, entertainment, rules and have almost no structure, owning a Thor product is not a requirement to join in the fun. You are welcome to join the group if:
You currently own a Thor product
You used to own a Thor product
You are thinking of owning a Thor product
You can spell Thor

We've had folks show up for part of the day without their rig. That's fine, too. The only thing that would exclude you would be a bad attitude. Can't allow that!
