Headed to Tennessee

Morning everyone, we have decided to head to the eastern part of Tennessee for our Christmas vacation. We are coming from Texas, our first stop will be Shreveport, and the next stop will be Chattanooga, and then to settle down for the remainder of the trip in Pigeon Forge. I’m looking for recommendations of places to stop. Shreveport and Chattanooga are over night stops. Any and all suggestions will be very much appreciated. Be careful and watch your six.

We don't often head that way in the winter (can run into some icy roads) but you should have a beautiful, mountain Christmas. If going across TN you might want to make a stop at one of the two Russell Stover candy outlets. Also, weather permitting, take a drive up Lookout Mtn in Chattanooga and, If you're not claustrophobic, go to Ruby Falls. Don't know if you've been in that part of the country before, but I can vouch for the fact that you will see some beautiful scenery. Safe travels and Merry Christmas!

For proximity to the interstate...Camping World is at Exit 1 on I-75, just after you get into Tennessee. If you are on I-24, Raccoon Mountain is just off the interstate, about 5 miles into Tennessee from GA, not far past the Welcome Station, Exit 174. Since you are just overnighting, being close to the interstate would be nice.

I have not stayed at either one, but have looked at the one at CW, and it looks nice.

We stayed and played music at the Pigeon Forge KOA. Nice park and walking distance to lots of restaurants, shops and really cool places like Dollywood and the Titanic location. Recommend that very much. Would not want to drive there if it snows however..

We just left that area of Tennessee. We stayed at Twin Creek RV resort. It's the closest to Gatlinburg. It has a trolley stop at the entrance that goes into Gatlinburg and on to pigeon forge if you want. No need to drive anywhere. We left Gatlinburg and headed to Falls Creek Falls state park. A beautiful Park. We hiked to the falls, attended the 40th annual folk festival and had a blast there.

We stayed at Creekside in Pigeon Forge. It is a nice, small park. Office/store has limited items. Interior spaces are level, creekside have a slight slope towards the creek.

We have driven through River Plantation in Sevierville, looks very nice and is pet friendly. It has a pet area and dog wash.

There are tons on campgrounds in the area.

Basically doing that same trip this Christmas except my drive isn't that long.

Just outside Shreveport is the Duck Commander Tours. It's where they shot the Duck Dynasty show. It was a neat, quick stop. There is a gift shop and a tour of the building.

Staying at Racoon Mountain Caverns and RV park in Chattanooga. It apparently has Caverns to explore on or adjacent the property. Says it's 15 minutes from Lookout Mountain.

We chose Up The Creek RV Camp for Pigeon Forge area. Drove by it many times when we rented cabins down the road. We like the location.
