Thor factory tour

I took the Thor factory tour at Plant 650 today. There were only four of us on the tour which was great for soaking in information. We saw the assembly of class C from start to finish. HUGE bonus for me is we saw the 2020 FW 24F in every stage of production. I have the 2017 24F so I now has a greater appreciation of how my coach is put together sans the three years of upgrades. (Sigh)

I worked in the defense sector and have been to my share of assembly plants albeit tanks, planes, ships. I must say I have a new found respect for Thor and their class C products.

The major piece parts that make up the coach - chassis, walls, roof, slides are put together very well. That was what I was really interested in.

The assembly of the major parts was interesting and I must say Thor took a lot of time to figure this out, especially the roof.

I have a lot of details about my coach that I would have never figured out without taking the tour. However, being a first model year owner brings risk of kinks not being worked out.

If you haven’t gone on a tour then you are missing the experience of how your coach was built and how it ticks.

Shout out to our tour guide today - he took the time to answer our questions and show us first hand how things we put together. With just 4 of us it seemed a bit more intimate plus he knew we were 24F owners.

Only sad part is the tour guide wouldn’t let us trade up on the spot - SWMBO wants the 2020 24F.

The key part of SWMBO is "obeyed!" (See my tag line.)

We did a tour of the Vegas/Axis plant right after we picked up our new Vegas in 2015. Like Jimbo said, it was informative, a great tour. We had toured other RV plants, before and since, but it was especially enlightening to see coaches like ours in various stages on the line.

We toured with two other couples, and two of the three of us had a Vegas. The other couple had one of those SOBs. We asked the tour guide some tough questions. I highly recommend a trip to the Elkhart area to do a tour!

I came away from the tour with the same sense that the floor, walls and roof were solid and well built. I was looking to find reasons for some of the miscues in the interior construction that I found in our Hurricane. I expected to see more layout lines and templates being used. I was mostly impressed.

Kudos on the tour as well. We did Plant 650 and Plant 250 where they build the Super C's. I mostly wanted to know where everything hid behind the walls. It was very informative and the quality that goes into the products was really impressive. Best knowledge I came out with was finding out all of the water and power lines were run within the insulated "body". Second best...amazing how much the quality follows the pricing. Worst part...actually seeing how cheaply the front ends of the gas A's were put together. Lots of plywood...inconsistent insulation. All in all...great products.

Septic smell in cabin

Past few times we have gone on a trip and hook up city water and turn on the faucet we get a septic smell. I read somewhere that a new stand pipe cover called 360 syphon would take care of the problem. It said I was getting negative pressure from the air flowing into the stand pipe, even tho it is covered. Has anyone else had this problem? And will a new stand pipe cover work?
