And here lies the other problem; WHO will create legislation to limit the terms? WHO will create legislation to police the politicians when they lie and when they don't perform as they promised? WHO will create the legislation that will require oversight on their corrupt activities? WHO will submit and pass legislation to limit the money that can be spent on campaigns? The answer, of course, is those same Public Servants would have to vote these limitations on themselves! The old 'fox guarding the henhouse' adage, which means that will NEVER HAPPEN!

That is pure BS. A convention of states would spell that out. The people would do that. It may never happen I agree, but it should happen. Career politicians are ruining this country.

Thank you to everyone who voted.
Now; we just need to figure out who won...

non-partisan ballot initiatives--
FLORIDA changed how we amend our State Constitution. Now a proposed amendment is put on the ballot and if 60 % vote for it our constitution is changed. A 30 page major change to laws is on the ballot in 35 words or less, written by the special interests that benefit from the change.
Just approved was a $15 minimum wage requirement, that will bankrupt businesses and require the State to raise taxes or curtail services. Another proposal will increase our sales tax to support a nebulous program "for the Children" with a promise that what the 8 millions dollars annually will be used for will be detailed after the amendment passes.
Most amendments are items turned down by the elected government officials...

So they'll tell you what's in the amendment after you pass it? That sounds like a stool sample!

Close it then. What did you think it would become when discussing this election farce? Close it.

One other thing to add to my list.......

Voting is a very important responsibility. The outcome of which impacts more than 300 million people. Every ballot needs to be verified by a state issued ID or signature verification for mail-in ballots.

You have to show an ID and have your signature verified for things that are as equally or even less important than voting.

- Open a bank account
- Cash a check
- Apply for a loan
- Purchase liquor
- Purchase cigarettes
- Purchase a home
- Purchase a vehicle
- Board an airplane
- Apply for food stamps
- Drive a vehicle
- Apply for a marriage license
- Rent a hotel room
- Purchase a gun
- Apply for a hunting license
- Apply for a fishing license
- Pickup a prescription
- Purchase certain cold medicines or chemicals
- Applying for welfare

And finally..... I think...... for Federal elections the voting process and rules need to be exactly the same from one state to the next. We can't have 50 states making up their own rules for a federal election and even changing them right before an election.. as was the case in PA.

For state elections, let the states make their own rules since it only impacts their own state but if it is a Federal election it needs to be an even playing field for every state and each party should be able to have a representative closely monitoring the process.

I do not like what I see happening. Then again, I am old the current society trends and the errosion of right/wrong is giving me strong impression that future is not good.

Good time to be old. Though it is hardly Mad Max time.

Enjoy what you can now.

I'm in my late 50's and I keep telling my wife that I am glad I will be retiring next year and I am on the back nine versus just starting my round like my nephew and grand kids.

We planned an early retirement because life is just too short and we want to enjoy as much as we can while we still are in good health. But with the way things are going in the country, it solidifies my decision to hang it up.

Yep, the rules should be the same, but we don't even enforce the rules we have now.

Counting procedures should also be the same, otherwise you have a state like Nevada with the same number of voters as Miami-Dade county in Florida, still dragging their feet with only 84% of the vote counted 3 days after the election.

I can see why Alaska is slow counting votes with the physical distant and weather issues they have to contend with, but Nevada?

They don't call it the Sin City state for nothin'!

It is ridiculous that in this day and age this is how things are done in this country. We probably look like the proverbial "banana republic" to a few countries around the world.

Judge;
You had indicated in a vehicle licensing thread that you have a FL Driver's License while your wife has a PA license.

Do each of you vote in your respective DL states?
or, do both of you pick a state to vote in?

That is, since no DL is necessary to vote, you could probably vote in both states, huh???

That's why (IMHO) DL's and national election voting needs to be federalized.
