V10 Replacement

So it looks like the new 7.3L Godzilla Engine 430HP 475 lb-ft Torque gets similar gas mileage as the 6.8L V10 362HP 457 lb-ft Torque.

Neither very fuel efficient at all but if you want the power... pay to play.

I plan on doing a lot of traveling in Mexico as well and do not want to get stranded with a diesel engine that no one can work on or get parts for easily.

Did anyone here ever consider going for a vintage Vixen or GMC before purchasing newer.

I considered a gmc, heartily.
But
They're cultish and I wasnt looking for friends/aquaintance with odd fixations.

There's still a tiny one-off type 1966 class A calling my name, but it has a curved windshield and I'm too skeered.

My first plan was to buy an early 80's autocar 4x4 diesel cab and chassis and build my own.
The 24.1 filled a void in logic I didn't know I had, and saved me two years and $200,000.

My second RV was an UltraVan build in Hutchinson, KS in 1968 (Beaureguard Beluga #388). It was an all aluminum class A coach 22 x 8 x 8 ft with a air cooled Corvair drive-train under the 6 x 7.5 foot bed. We put 188,000 miles on the coach in 16 years and only once did it come home on a rollback (the last 22 miles of a check-out cruise to check on the newly rebuilt engine). The 3,400 lb coach got about 19 mph @ 65 mph on 93 octane fuel. It had 4 each 30 gallon tanks under the floor (gas, freshwater, black water and gray water).

Obviously, you have to be some-what of a mechanic to drive one, as the only full service center is in Bon-Ox, PA. Body parts parts are as close as your local airport as the entire coach was built in an aircraft factory and is of a riveted semi-monocoque design.

Yes it has 4 wheel independent air suspension with variable ride height

The old one’s are great… they are built very well and solid parts…. My roof was a one piece sheet of aluminum. That think is never going to leak!….But you need a bank roll and you need to be very mechanically inclined.
20 years ago I didn’t know how to install a hot water heater… I learned real quick! Same thing…. if and when you break down on the side of the road. You need a slew of spare parts and knowledge. Can’t take these to the dealership. But it was a blast working on. Good or bad… You become a freak show at the fuel pump. Be prepared to talk [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

I'm not a concert fan but a friend who had lead a secluded/narrow professionally driven, life said she had never been to a concert.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers, folding chairs in front of the front row is what we bought and took her and her husband.
I don't think it can ever be topped.

We're more of a Ray Price or Hoyt Axton or Ray Charles or Debbie Reynolds 50 seat max type of folk.

I thought this thread was about nothing? It is starting to Sting and if you gonna talk swerve, I need help. I googled and got "to turn aside abruptly from a straight line or course"?

Yep, the past few years I had been keeping an eye out for a good "base" to go down the DIY road but screw that, I'm ready to go down the real road. Just the logistics of corralling all the tanks, control panels, etc was looking daunting and all encompassing.

I wanted to self build because the floor plans of smaller coaches are just quite not what I'm after. A larger shower is a must and walk around bed access is a close 2nd. This could be achieved by shrinking the front kitchen/lounge area down which would be fine by me. Nothing on the market like that except slide out beds which are not truly walk a round's.

Compromise is in order, but not a larger coach.

24.1 has a huge bathroom when you open the doors and the shower can be made absolutely huge simply by hanging the sink/vanity on the door it sits next to.

Very easy one day project plus building/installing the new shower floor plan.

I designed it but did not do this. The shower doesn't bother me.

Thanks, yea I would go that route with that plan bathroom for sure, 6' 2" ,long lanky arms. I actually like projects like that and the 24.1 dinette would be my second choice as the rear beds would be the easiest to manipulate as well, taking space from under storage. Also seems to be the easiest to find.

I'm a solid 6'4"@213lbs.

I did raise the shower head. There's a post/picture on this thread somewhere. Maybe post 293.

3 minutes at the most in that shower couldn't sway me even if it did bother me.
That's why I didn't follow through on the vanity move(which adds about 18" to the shower pan).

Did you happen to render in any way your shower plan. Did you find an all in one pan with sides or just add to existing pvc? walls.

I agree that a few minutes in the shower would not deter me from grabbing a good deal. Those "folding" shower curtain rods seem pretty cool and smart.
