LED Clearance Light

Does anyone happen to know the model part # for the "clearance light" over the A.C.E.30.2 logo's letter E???

I want to see if I can find it around this small town, maybe as part of some product other than an rv, or to order it from Amazon, bc it's not stocked by the local RV repair shops I've contacted. I truly need to get hold of one asap.

I know it probably seems odd that I'm stressin over such a minor item, but I just Failed my rig inspection yesterday bc that LED is out. I didn't even know it was a safety light up there - I figured that the tiny lil' lights were decorative!

I also can't figure out how it's a safety issue to have my inspection fail over (& there are more of them up there that I can barely see from in front of my rig)???

The driver can't see it to use it for clearance safety inside the rig, vehicles coming towards me don't need to know where the clearance line is unless they're Evel Knievel with a ramp to try to jump over it ( & then it's still about 7 inches lower than my clearance), & I truly doubt any low clearance bridge can miraculously move out of my way when it sees me coming - so what the hell does it acomplish for safety???

Unfortunately, the one local rv repair shop that showed any interest in tracking it down said it's not going to be a fast replacement. They were supposed to get back to me by today with a time frame for delivery when they tracked one down, but no such luck.

I need to pass this inspection for my new domicile state (Tx) & get back on the road again, hopefully without waiting weeks for the part & spendin my gas money on movin every few days (so as not to run afoul of any possible boondocking ordinances), without actually getting any further on my journey, or spendin my gas money to stay put at a local park (sadly, no military posts in range)...

Anyway, I couldn't find a part number on my own in any of these warranty books or online & I can't easily climb up there to try to pull it out to find the number, so as always - I'm turning to all the experts on the forum to help me see the errors in my way (at least this one error), & then I can go my merry way as a Texan for the 2nd time in my life.

Thanks, as always!

Basically, if there is a light, it is supposed to work.

Meanwhile, take it off, put duct tape over the opening, then get another inspection.

Learned this from a trucker friend once, where a particular patrolman seemed to always be pulling him for inspections.
Had a light not working, took his tire checker, and beat it off his truck, in front of the cop.
Passed his inspection, no light to be there to be on!

You can always put the burnt out one back on afterwards.

Stand your ground, no regs saying how many, or how evenly spaced.

I had to replace three of the white ones on my Hurricane. My research determined they were 3/4" leds. I found a supplier, Kaper II, Inc. & Woody's Accessories, but they were $5.61 each plus shipping. I then found them on eBay for $13.43 for a bag of 20 LEDs with free shipping. Hope the info helps.

If it's a factory installed light...it must work. A local NAPA store should be able to help you and most likely will have it in stock. Also do Google for the area you are in for a "commercial truck bodies" search...those companies that build utility bodies for straight trucks, etc. Look for names like 'Reading', 'Knapheide', 'Supreme Truck Bodies', etc. Also, if you're near any commercial truck dealership like Kenworth, International, Freightliner, Volvo, etc., they will have it as well. Where are you this morning?

Okay, I think I saw a Napa listed nearby, & I'll try the other places after that. I wish I could locate a part # without tryin to climb the roof. This leg w/all it's metal doesn't do well to balance me in the rain down on the ground, let alone up on the roof. I recently left Barksdale AFB. I spent nearly 2 wks there enjoying the views of the bombers landing & taking off all day. The approach was right over my head. I have some pics of their beautiful B-1's & a few others.Click image for larger version

You got me to thinking so I pulled out the stepladder and placed it next to the RV. Climbed up and looked in the lens nearest to me and found I DID NOT have LED clearance lights.

Then and only then did I take the cover off and took a photo of the clearance light bulb in my 2115 24.1 Vegas. It is a 6712V4CP.

Guess I'll be adding a couple to my "Spares Box".

Only one "F" in BUF. All caps because it an Army/Marine abbreviation for the black, tall tails carrying 30 tons of bombs. I cannot imagine a grunt saying here comes another "big ugly friendly fellow"

I suggest you ask anyone at Khe Sanh, Jan 1968, when 60 BUFs did a "square dance" around the camp's perimeter for 11 days or read the Falcon codes from that time frame. In 1972/3 when college students lined up at airports to spit on the returning troupes, the powers that were in charge start a decency campaign to call the B-52G & H buffs (big ugly friendly fellows) to appease the politically correct. Fat Albert was the only USAF nickname that had fat in it it prior to 1973.

Hey L-T, Barksdale has a great deal to do both on & off base. It's very secure & has limited access at all times. Don't bother trying to order a pizza & you can't use an uber or lyft if you don't have a toad. They also don't have a shuttle anymore on base (which seems to be the norm everywhere I go now). But it's a very busy base, home to the B-1 bombers & it's a global response base.

There are parks, places to fish, arts & crafts, tons of MWR & outdoor rental available. & they have a great skeet & trap range open to even temporary residents (like me!), it's a VERY nice shotgun facility for a military post. The base is large & spread out, & a toad is really a neccessity if you plan to do anything other than hang out in your rig.

There's all the normal things you expect on base, like automotive, a package store, gas, & lil px, along with a regular px that's well stocked & fairly new. The commissary is decent, but older (& just doesn't have room for much variety )

Barksdale added a new pull thru fhu fam camp that's built to the side to their older established camp. There are 62 very level concrete slabs that will easily fit up to 40 ft or a smaller rigs & toad. The gravel roads are very wide & easy to utilize.

The sewage won't allow you to screw in your drains, so a large rock or board (I used two of my heavy rubber leveling jack pads to keep it securely in place).

The power post allows a choice of 30 or 50 amp & I'm not sure, but think I recall a twenty amp available, as well. There is one trash bin at the north end of the park. All the slabs have your cockpit facing due west

The only issue with the new fam camp side that I encountered is that they cleared every last tree when they built it. It's definitely going to fell like your parked on a cast iron griddle come summertime.

The old side has some nice trees, not so big & old that you worry about the next storm, & not so small as to be of little shade value. The new side has newly added lawns on the side of each rig & a round blue metal picnic table, no fire rings or bbq's on a stick.

Fire is strictly regulated & the very friendly & responsive fulltime office staff will let you know if you're able to pull out your own bbq setups during your stay. They have ice available for your use when you arrive, which was a real novelty for me (though I can't fit a bag of ice in my freezer, I appreciated the availability).

The restrooms/showers & laundry is centrally located in one smallish brick building (if you need them). The bath areas are coded & you receive the current pass when you arrive, along with a wifi pass (which is extremely limited in range, but it's there).

I never went into the bathrooms, but I saw several families make the trip accross with flipflops & shower gear each day (so my assumption, for what that's worth, is that it's at least well maintained). There is also a family/handicapped facility & at least one woman with a walker utilized that shower.

There is a very clean & efficient laundry room w/four washers & dryers at $1.50 per wash & the same to dry. The laundry is not coded. It's located in he same building as the baths. I used the laundry & it was well maintained.

The folks who were there at the same time I was were very friendly. A few were active duty & only peeked out for duty & quickly disappeared after Colors. The rest seemed to be maimly just passing thru after a day or two. I spent two weeks at the fam camp.

Their routines at fam camp follow the bugle calls, very similar to my entire military life. Ft Bragg's camp was too far from the main post to hear any bugle calls, sadly. Ft. Eustis followed the normal Army protocol. This post is definitely attuned to the calls!

Every morning at Barksdale starts with reveille (strangely, reveille isn't untill 0730 hrs, nearly halfway through a Grunt's morning - guess the high tech Airdales keep banker's hours, lol!).
Colors is at 1705 hrs, & I appreciated that no one tried to hide out from it.

Those of us in the park all rendered hand salutes or hand to heart & the base plays the National Anthem following the call to Colors which extends Attention to a full 3 minutes. Even the Military Bratts showed respect & at least attempted to stay wiggle free, according to age, to show their respect.

I really enjoyed it & wondered if all AFB's now play the Natl Anthem w/Colors (or if this was jus a Barksdale thing). Taps was early, at 2100 hrs. The sound system at Barksdale was pretty impressive. The clarity of the calls was beautiful.

During the day, you'll enjoy the bombers as they take off & land, about twice an hour, on average - but sometimes several take offs or landings that are one right after another. If you don't like the sound of aircraft, you won't be happy (I noticed somebody actually complained about them on RV Parky, like, what did they expect on an AF base?)

If you don't know the base layout, be careful heading to the commissary from the fam camp. Once you are on the range road, if you are relying on gps it will suddenly drop, & if you aren't paying attention when it happens (like I wasn't), you'll find yourself lost in, or near, the impact zone & come upon the flight line - which merely has some barbed, not razor wire, strung across the roadway preventing run in's.

If that happens, hopefully you will run across a very surprised SF, as I did, eating his lunch. The SF won't threaten to shoot you, as I would've expected from the Army MPs (& the Marines would've launched a full assault against the RV, lol!); but he will help you get your tail end out of danger & even escort you all the way to the commissary (my SF was outta of coffee), lol!

Again, the moral of the story, look at a "real" paper map (if you even have one), before you head towards the commissary. Thankfully, paper maps don't suddenly erase themselves when you need them the most. This tech phobic girl Hates gps (but I'm slowly learning to use it).

Anyway, it's a nice set up at Barksdale & I hope you enjoy your stay!Click image for larger version

Yeah, but every branch of service, every unit, company, platoon & even individual squads often have their own take on language,& always have. The best seem to stick around thru out the generations mostly untouched like fubar always seems to hang tight since wwII era troops. But some concepts, like our 'boomer generation's "suck it up & deal with it", came from my bros (both biological bros & mil bros) in Nam & changed to "embrace the suck" w/the youngsters coming in jus as I was heading out. But that didn't mean it completely disappeared. My personal favorite is always, "fido", F it & drive on....language is fluid & it's meant to reflect us all & all our experiences, don't sweat the individual nuances in time or place - jus chill bc we're all family & we understand each other better than any civvie ever can - it's all good & we don't want to lose that connection. Take care & drive on

Just got one & passed my inspection not ten minutes ago! Hopefully I can finish registering & paying more taxes tomorrow.

Now, if I can jus get them to accept my mimeographed birth cert, or look jus a little harder for the record of my old Texas motorcycle license - then I can get my new Tx license & be good to go my merry way with a legal domicile that allows for fulltimers & that's Not The Great Socialist State of Maryland, or any other east or left coast dominion!

For anyone who needs to know it, the Thor part number is: 0375768, manufactured by Command Electronics #K-51.

Thor kindly sent me a new one at no cost today (but I found one here before it could arrive, so now I have a spare!)
