When I mentioned possibility of a lower-cost Axis/Vegas option in a previous post, I was thinking of a modern-day version of that Champion, or Winnebago, Barth, etc. A new Class A in 20-foot range would have too much competition from larger vans, but an Axis/Vegas in 23-foot range may do really well with couples and small families looking for a bit more space than vans can provide, provided they keep cost down to same range as a Class B van camper. I think Thor would need to keep cost of an entry level 23-foot Axis to $100~$110k MSRP in order to appeal to enough buyers.
Buyers have never been a Thor Industries problem. All coaches manufactured are ordered from the dealers. No coach leaves the delivery yard unless it is fully paid for. When I first visited the Airstream plant in Jackson Center, the were running one shift and producing 42 trailers per week (1999). Trailers were $24,000 to $131,000 and 20% of their production went to Europe. I was back again in 2019 and the prices were $41,000 to $170,000. Now they have two completer factories and are producing 74 trailers per week. If you special order one for a dealer you might be able to get it by next summer.

I may not be following what you are stating, but from my perspective having buyers willing to purchase your products is always essential. If enough buyers don't want a particular motorhome, dealers will stop ordering from manufacturer. Taken to the extreme, manufacturers will go out of business unless they develop new products that buyers actually purchase at a high-enough price for both dealers and manufacturer to make reasonable profit.

In case of Axis/Vegas, think about how many floor plans have been discontinued. I am certain that there were not enough buyers to make them all profitable after a while so they get replaced with new floor plans that Thor think have more to offer.

My comment regarding a lower-cost Axis/Vegas floor plan to appeal to more buyers was based on other model lines like Chateau Class C where MSRP of largest and most expensive is about 40% higher than lowest cost floor plan. Why not try the same with Axis/Vegas unless they can’t get cost low enough to make it competitive? They already tried going larger and more expensive with limited success, so maybe smaller and lower cost is worth a try.

Vegas 24.1 buying experience

We purchased our 2019 Vegas 24.1 in October, 2019. It had been on the dealer's lot for months. MSRP was $118,000+, we paid $74,300-discount of 37%!

The same small dealer says he cannot even order one today and get it in any reasonable amount of time. When the "bubble" bursts, there will be a lot of buyer's remorse.

interesting discussion here- thanks for sharing the pricing and info.
I got my Vegas 24.1 in Jan 2018 and paid around $75k or so. I wouldnt be able to purchase that RV now with the $110k+ price.
I finally had to get a new car. I checked with a few different Hyundai dealers and they were all adding about $4k-$6k mark up OVER MSRP. I decided to get a Kia Sorento as it was price at MSRP. Kinda interesting in these changes in prices. I would have kept putting off getting a vehicle if possible, although who knows what will happen with car & RV prices over the next few years when taking into account inflation/economics/etc.

Yes, you got a great % discount then that you would not get today.

But at the time you purchased, I could have negotiated your same same deal. An end of year discount on previous year’s model.

And, both of us would have realized an immediate 15-20% depreciation hit (before tax & license) once we exited the dealer’s lot.

It’s a different time now.

Unless you are paying MSRP, I'm not sure you'll be taking a depreciation hit today. Prices are up and not going down.

I ordered this year and bought my 2022 Vegas 24.1 in July 2021, MSRP is $135,167 on my coach and I had a negotiated sales price of $86,977 that the dealer honored.

35% off MSRP is fantastic in 2021.

The airstream dealer near Boise has a very large lot full of offerings.

Idaho didn’t experience the run on RVs other States did…mostly because anyone that could afford one already had one. Lots are still full and they are pestering us with sales.

We did experience the flood of new campers. Fortunately I mostly boondock and know where to go. No issues.

Fortunately also upgraded to Georgetown 30x3 in Nov 2019 so are good for a few more years. With one exception I don’t keep RVs over about three years. Will probably change out Georgetown just before Ford Warranty runs out…Nov 2024.

Prices should have “normalized” by then but thanks to the swamp crowd inflation might accelerate further if they continue to import drains on the economy.

25% off MSRP initial offer. Not a bad starting point.

I live near Mike Thompson RV in Fountain Valley CA. I bought a class C there a few years ago, the place was jammed with RV’s. Today it’s a ghost town. Salesman told me they have more sold stock than new. I wanted to see a Mercedes based class C with a full wall slide—any make. The had none. I know the prevailing opinion is that in a year or 2 the market will be flooded with used RV’s bought during the pandemic. To me, that’s like timing the stock market. Forget about it. My one year old (when I bought it) 27.2 ACE for $65k looks pretty decent now.

I stopped by there in April to look at a couple things they had advertised, but they didn't have them. But they would let me order with 10% down NON refundable and open ended pricing since they couldn't guarantee what it would cost. NO THANKS. The acted like they were doing me a favor by letting me in the door.

Hershey High prices

I agree, prices seem to be HIGH, but with a pandemic shortage of used GOOD Rv units, dealers can ask more to get those sales. I'm sure with pandemic labor slowdowns, there may be a overall supply shortage as well.

Good time to just hang on to what you have !

this too, will all pass.

$1000 refundable deposit was enough for my order this year.

I think prices are not high given the environment.
Food costs. Gas etc is the bigger expense.
MH is like having an extra sports car and less cost in some cases and used more the sports cars.

Lora and I are extremely happy to be able to drive anywhere be together, see nature, bike, hike. Tennis and have wine

And they are pieces of crap anyway. I've been trying to get mine fixed since the day I bought it new in 2020. The slide still will not close all the way. That's after sending it to the factory and they said nothing was wrong with it. Camping World worked on it for 2 months and it is worse. I have owned 6 Class A motorhomes for the last 45 years and have never had one put together this poorly.

Howard, who parks next to me, has a 2022 Entrega Esteem 27U which he bought last December. We have camped together twice for about 12 days. Howard swears his coach is perfect in every way. The has never had any work done on it since he drove it off the lot. It is this fourth coach and his second class C.

I looked at the Entegra Esteem 29V which had many nice features but got the omni so I could have a better chassis. Wish the house was as nice.

It's a free site so site owner's sell ads that we all get to "enjoy". I keep getting women's lingerie ads. Can't figure that one out.
