It absolutely amazes me that those of us with pets can't discuss pet friendly RV parks in peace. If someone else doesn't want to be around pets, that's fine - just go to RV parks that don't allow them. No different than the over 55 parks that don't allow kids.

Rusty
Just thought i would ask if you know, how much more does it cost to stay at a over 55 no kids allowed or a no pet allowed RV park. If you know. thanks.

I wouldn't know. As my signature indicates, we travel with pets.

The rates at 4 Paws Kingdom at the same as with comparable parks and they do not allow children. In talking to the owners the reason for no children is due to increased insurance rates if they allow children under 14 years old.

We learned that we have to check campground rules when planning trips because we have come across some "no pet" parks. Their rates also seem to be the same as other campgrounds in the area. National and State Parks which do not allow parks tend to be cheaper but generally do not offer sewer connections so they are not considered full hook up.

I also think that rates at campgrounds are indicative of the location rather than if they have an exclusion for pets or kids. A campground out in the middle of nowhere is usually much cheaper than a campground on the beach.

Dave,

Been meaning to ask you: How did your two (?) feline friends travel on their inaugural trip you made awhile back?

They did great. One of them decided they could use Marta's back as a spring board to jump onto the overhead bunk. Luckily Marta thinks they are crazy rather than a threat.

The two kittens made themselves right at home and found a bunk on the bedroom chest.

Of course, folks at the campground questioned our sanity for bringing felines to a campground that caters to canines.

That's funny! LOL!!!

Glad it went well. They look quite content and at home. Next time you leave, they'll be waiting at the door to board. Not sure about Marta though.

We just don't have the nerve to try it with our two. One's a Siamese and the other's a blue Russian we think.

Saw a lady with a really pretty; what looked to be a Siamese Persian mix on a leash and being quite behaved this past week at a campground we visited. She said it was quite smart and responded to some voice commands. Of course the cat would never admit to that.

Larry,

The way we handled the kittens was

Going out we had them in a large dog crate strapped to the underside of the dinette table. I relocated the travel location for the dining chairs so they were strapped on the bed. The kittens sang to us the entire trip.

Since we used the campground bath house the shower became the litter box location. We put a rubber mat on the floor of the shower so litter would not get in the drain pipes.

When we were away from the coach they stayed in the bedroom area with the bathroom door opened (separating bed and bathroom from living area which gave them room to run around and access to the litter box in the shower.

We had a collapsible crate in a storage compartment and at night both crates would be set up and each kitten would have their own crate for sleeping. The crates were then put on the overhead bunk during the day so they were out of the way.

On the trip back we used both crates for travelling and they settled in nicely and it was a much quieter ride.

We are looking forward to our next trip to Charleston, SC which should happen the beginning of December.

Dave: I was at 4 Paws the weekend after your visit. (2nd Octoberfest) The sauerbraten dinner was excellent. The dogs had a great time (bobbing for wieners and visiting) Went on the Blue Ridge Parkway after leaving the park, leaves were just before peak color. Traffic on the parkway was heavy.

Dogs: Lily the Pug and George, a Newfoundland.

HappyHolidayRV.com

All,

We found a great site in Cherokee NC, HappyHolidayRV.com. They are changing to their WInter Rates and services ($30/nite). Limited sites, Cable goes off the air 15Nov, WiFi available, no AT&T cell phone coverage so OFF THE GRID for 48hrs.

Also great fishing (see pictures) just feet off the rear bumper of the RV. Wife got first catch before I could even get my line rigged and baited!! Great eating that night and 4 more frozen for later...good fishing!

BTW: limited taxi service to the Cherokee Harrah's Casino, but just down the road.

Pets allowed, but no Dobermans, Rottweilers, or Pit Bulls (what the site says).
