Pet Monitors

So the Missus and I have started looking for a way to keep an eye on our TinkerBell, while we go exploring.
The options seem endless, and the search through them is daunting.
Which ones do you guys use?

GMC will probably answer in more detail but he has a wifi enabled thermometer to keep tabs on conditions in his rig.

Search around there is at least one long thread discussing pet monitoring devices (temperature sensors and live cameras). It is a bit older.

Edit: Just searching for "Pet Monitor":

We use a number of things... the first being the Samsung SmartCam that is connected to our MiFi for remote monitoring. It is mounted under the front bunk bed and points down the center of the aisle in the RV to the bedroom. It also has a microphone and a speaker so we can talk to the dogs. We have a digital thermometer mounted where the camera can see it (plus AGS if we need AC.) So far, so good.

We actually use a CANARY to monitor our two pups. It will allow us to view the inside of the coach, give us the temperature (along with low and high alerts), and intruder alerts (that also determine if it is a "human" or other movement)

It is WIFI, but we have an ATT NIGHTHAWK hotspot that connects the CANARY to the cell network. The NIGHTHAWK also has a battery and a USB connector that will run about 24 hours without power. The CANARY can connect to one of the USB outlets we installed in the coach or can connect to the NIGHTHAWK to power it. (The NIGHTHAWK can also be powered by USB)

We also use the NIGHTHAWK to stream our FIRETV for the front and back televisions.

And NO you do not have to subscribe to CANARY for the device to work. It is just that without a subscription, you only have access to 24 hours worth of alerts and videos...(something that has never really affected us)

Minder Research

We've also been researching the various Pet Monitor options and ran across the Home Minder - a product of Minder Research, the folks that developed the Tire Minder TPMS.

It looks like a good system, has a built-in camera, requires no monthly fees and does all the usual alerts like many of the other units out there.

CW has it on sale for $199 (not at all a fan of CW), and of course available on Amazon but a bit higher price.

Wondering if anyone else has looked into this product or know anyone who may own it and can provide feedback?

Thanks, Keith

We've been looking at all of the Minder products...

...including the Tire Minders!

We saw a demo of the HomeMinder system last summer before it went to market (as we have TireMinder for our TPMS) and this looked like an excellent product. May have to investigate it a little further as we have some CW gift cards to use...

Since I've seen it in here already...

Does the TireMinder system allow to inflate your tires through the sensor; or must they be removed?

Is the HOMEMINDER wall mounted? That is the only thing I am not really happy about on the CANARY.?

Bob, they have both types. I got the ones you have to remove. Kind of a pain on the front tires because the wheel covers make it a little tough to get your fingers in to turn them. If you’re not careful they can fall inside the wheel cover and you have to go fishing.

TempStick

We use the Tempstick and a wifi hotspot. Tempstick has a plug in model now, and you program alerts when temp reaches your alarm level. It sends out texts with the alarm. They are working on an alarm for power failure as well as temperature.
These sevices only work if both the Rv and your phone have signal--data for the RV, texts for the phone. And you need to set the alarm temp suuch that you can get gack to the RV to rescue Tink. I bought directly from the company in Utah, had unit here on the East coast in 2 days. They gave a better price when I spoke with them than I found on Amazon.

Ours have to be removed to air up the tires. I do believe they have the flow through type as well, for some reason they weren’t recommended.

We purchased a Nimble pet monitor. It basically monitors temperature and sends you alerts when the temperature is out of range, you are on battery, etc. It works through a cellular network, not wifi, and we haven't been anywhere it doesn't work. You pay a monthly/annual fee for the cellular service, but it isn't outrageous. At least we can make sure that the air conditioning is still working in the coach. We don't need a camera to monitor the dogs, so temperature only is fine for us.
