Camp Verde, AZ

These pictures taken while heading north on AZ highway 85. It’s a Beautiful highway with great views. We were heading to Camp Verde, AZ for two weeks, then on to Williams for a train ride to the Grand Canyon rim.

Interstate 40

We were heading east on I-40 with Memphis, TN in sight. The Mississippi was at near flood stage. After crossing the bridge we scooted for higher ground.

These are pictures of a beautiful old bridge crossing the Susquehanna River from Columbia, PA to Wrightsville, PA.

After crossing the bridge we found this boat ramp where we could take pictures.

CA Sand Dunes

These pictures were taken from I-8 and a frontage road at the CA Imperial Sand Dunes Recreational Area just west of Yuma, AZ.

The water is part of the CA aqueduct system. The rest area is between the east & west I-8 highways. All of the RVs in these pictures are dry camping.

I noticed an earlier picture of Devil's Tower and thought I would share one myself. It wasn't until we actually walked the Tower Trail that I became aware that the Tower had been climbed back in the 1800's by some local ranchers. They had constructed ladders that could be fastened to the rock in some way. I guess a number of folks have climbed it with those ladders. The park service removed the lower sections of the ladder to prevent people from continuing to try to climb the Tower with them.

They had some "viewing scopes" at one point of the Tower Trail, but apparently they are useless. The view from one is now blocked by a tree and the other apparently has the glass missing. I got photos of the ladder with my 28-300mm zoom lens. One can see the ladder in the middle-lower part of this picture.

Some views "from" the Tower were also good. This gives a sense of the landscape around the Tower and a perspective of how the Tower just "towers" over the landscape.

South Range, WI

One day while parked at Southland RV Park at South Range we made a daytrip. It was a loop down US-53 to US-63 to US-2 and return to the RV Park.

Guess what we found? A large chunk of the Walton Empire (Wal-Mart), including Crude oil storage tanks (Murphy), a refinery, and a huge railway area.

The rest of the trip was very picturesque.

We really enjoyed our first trip across America using mostly US-2. Here we were entering Grand Forks from the east. We would spend a week at the Grand Forks AFB CG for rest, relaxation and shopping.

While visiting the Sedona area we explored just about everywhere. In these pictures we were curious what the everyday residential areas looked like. Most that were well established had nice foliage and well maintained yards.

Laughlin, NV

Once while wintering at Yuma, AZ we took an overnight bus tour to Laughlin, NV. Most of the ride was very scenic. Just before entering NV from Bullhead City, AZ I took a couple of pictures of the Colorado River with Laughlin in the background. They aren’t very good because they were shot facing the sun. After we got to our hotel room at the Riverside I did get one nice one of the Tropicana.

It is most likely incorrect, but it would fit in the place called the Big Texan.

Couldn't make it across the border this year so visited the Canadian side of Mt. Rushmore. Hopefully next year we'll get across.
