Quartzsite RV Show

Who has been to the Quartzsite RV show and can give pointers, advice, etc.?
We are thinking of going, our friends go and park on BLM land and boondock. I would love to hear about anyone's experience and ideas that could make the trip more fun. We would be traveling from the central valley to Palm Springs and probably stay in PS for a couple of days before going on to Quartzsite.

The show for 2023 is January 21 through 29.

You didn't get any response so far. Did you try a search on this site? If that fails, you might try some of the general RV forums, like IRV2.com.

Quartzsite

We have looked at several websites, including the RV show and BLM camping. We were interested in hearing about anyone's experience going to the show and boondocking on BLM land. Thank you for your response.

I've driven through the area in the winter and it's a pretty busy place. RV's everywhere. Looks like a good time.

I've researched many options there...I would have a hard time sleeping at night. I may be wrong but that area looks like the vagabond/squatter capital of the world.

It's -5* degrees up here right now with a high of 2* forecast for this afternoon:
The dessert around Quartzite sounds pretty good about now.

Quartzsite

Been there a few years ago with our RV club. Stayed in a camp site, but drove around the BLM site where you can enjoy cheap BLM boondocking and many free spirits, central water supply and dump sites are provided. There was a bookstore, my wife and I walked around, suddently she came to me and said there was a naked man in the store. I went to meet him, was the store owner, a sort of local celebrity. My wife took our pictures. Heard he passed away a couple years ago. On the west CA border there is a town called Blythe. There you will see several intanglios, giant human/animal figures carved on the ground by local indigenous people long ago - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blythe_Intaglios. There were RV and Gem shows in Jan/Feb. I bargained my wine glasses there (forgot what gemstone it is). I think there are only 100 regular local residents, but in the winter it swells to a couple of million, all snowbirds, meet all kinds interesting people. It's a place you have to experience at least once in your life. My friend visits there every year from SoCal.

South of Blythe along the colorado river there are several wild life refuges all the way to Yuma. Colorado is the flyway of migratory birds. We stayed in the Cibola Wild Life Sanctury for a few nights, you have to drive on the jetty of a canal to get there. Tranquility is the best word to described the campsite there.

Of course Colorado River is on my bucket list. Anza Burrego Desert State Park, Salvation Mountain, slab city, Palm Sprints are the must sees west of Quartzsite. Sorry didn't join the forum until recently. Wish everyone visiting there a good time.

During
'The season'
I wouldn't go if it paid $500 a day cash.
I don't need to save $3 on a toilet brush bad enough to do that walk, in that crowd, in that place.

I know the area from CastleDome to the Davis Dam like you guys know your backyard, underwater and above, so I'm not just grousing.

Go before. Go after, go enjoy. The point is(in most peoples instance) enjoyment of the resources available.
If it's friendship/comrades you seek, there are far better places, maybe even a crack-house, to search. If you go, you'll never again see such disparity sitting side by side.

My take exactly!! As stated earlier...the vagabond, van dwellers, and homes built from pallets capital of the world. Total freeloaders.

Do not harbor too much fear in your mind. Get out of your cacoon and enjoy the unknowns. RV in places like Quartzsite should be an adventure, experience the culture and life never experience before. There are millions of snowbirds like you and me. With your mechanical expertise, you will be proud of yourself, may even make some money. Be positive.
