Roadside assistance
We just bought a Freedom Elite 26HE and are super excited. What does everyone use for roadside assistance? We have had AAA for our cars for 30 years and wondering if we should stick with them or not
Thanks for your help

Who do you use for insurance...check with them first? Most insurance companies include roadside assistance. None of the providers actually have their own network of service vehicles...they all depend on independent service providers "Wally's Service Station" to respond when one of 'their" clients have a breakdown. AAA is the only company that has 'reps" that will respond but they usually drive cars or small pickups and can't handle the larger commercial truck issues. I feel the only benefit to any roadside assistance program istowing to the nearest service facility or tire repair...and most insurance companies offer towing as well.

Some programs do not have towing in all parts of the country.
Do you research and call, yes all, the programs and ask about the coverage.
AAA for one does not have towing coverage in isolated areas.

Ask how far they will tow your rig if it craps out.
Found out Nation wide I had, was only 100 miles and they dump you to a 3rd party service. Was not a fun day.

AAA specific motorhome coverage, and a separate RV specific roadside plan on our insurance. Discuss with your insurance agent what's covered and where. I've had State Farm since I was in diapers... at least it seems like that long.

Read the small print on the towing policy. Phrases like - must be no more than fifty feet from a paved two lane road - towing to the nearest service center (needs to be QUALIFIED service center) - roll back and lowboy towing excluded - only one tow vehicle per recovery - only one qualified tow per 12 calendar months. These phrases give the coverage provider a way to deny a tow.

AAA RV does not provide towing nationwide. They don’t have the contractors they need. I dumped them for Coach-Net. Costs more yes, but 200 % better coverage. Even covers the toad.
As a note, my rig being towed 34 miles to a FL dealer cost over 800.00. Since it was a warranty issue FL had to pay.

We have roadside assistance with Progressive Insurance. It is very inexpensive.....so I suppose you get what you pay for.
They Won't cover labor over 60 minutes. Nor will it fix a tire. It does cover tire replacement, but we have to buy the tire. It is probably best viewed as a towing policy. For that, it is about $27 a year.

Escapees Roadside
Only $109 per year and covers your RV, plus ALL your cars, owned, borrowed or rented. Used them twice, once for an RV lockout and the other was flat tire on my car. Just renewed my third year.

Just went to their website. I’m impressed. Anyone else’s had experience?

Towing
I have a 2018 Thor Citation on a Mercedes Sprinter Chassis. I lost my brakes when the rears brake sensors failed. I called Mercedes for help and while it took a few hours, they got the right size truck and towed me two hours to a dealer who could fix the brakes. DOn't think any other company would do that.

Any chassis manufacturer under warranty will do the same.

Considering what I'm hearing/reading about AAA, I'm seriously considering going with Coach-Net next year. My brother-in-law has had a generally good experience with them.

Progressive is very good plan. I don't know I would want my tire fixed as you state on the road? Progressive will pay to have the Service replace with your spare tire & wheel, or mount a new tire. You have to pay for the new tire. I have brand new spare tire (no wheel) under the bed just for that purpose if ever needed. If the flat tire was fixable, I will take it to a Goodyear Truck Center and pay them to fix the flat and it now becomes my spare. If it is not fixable, I will buy a new tire at good price while shopping around versus the duress of emergency purchase on the road.
You are dead right about their towing. They have best I have seen. Will tow anywhere you like within 15 miles ( 3 times / year); or tow to nearest authorized dealer they have no matter where; or allow you to pay delta to tow it even further.

Coach Net came with my new RV purchase and although I never needing any assistance from them, my experience with them was very good. I actually had 2 Roadside Assistance Plans for 1st 2 years. When Coach Net expired I did not renew in favor of my Progressive plan.
