Just picked up this little tabletop fire pit to take with us (wife and I) in our Compass. It is small, but I have heard it really produces great heat and it comes with a pellet adapter so the additional weight on board is extremely minimal if we do not want to take small chunks of wood. Looking forward to our first use this summer after the winter thaw. Might be an option for others.

I have the Mesa (a freebie from Solo) and the Original Bonfire. Waste of space taking them in the rig. We use campsite fire pits instead. And yes, we took them on our 7000 mile trip last summer. The solo never got used.
I generally do not use public campsite fire pits. They are either made with a tall, round, steel base which blocks the fire or they are made from concrete that is falling apart.
So, we use a much bigger version- 24” diameter, of the tabletop one. Cost about $125 on Amazon.
To each their own as they say. Personally, we haul entirely too much crap as it is. To haul around another fire pit when most campgrounds have them is one extra item we don't need taking up space.
