Toad versus Towed versus Tow'd versus Toed. Which is correct?

Towed is correct. You're towing a vehicle.
'my towed vehicle has our rv mattress in it because we are 21lbs over gvwr but we're under 21lbs on towing capacity and it's the only thing that weighed exactly 21lbs.'

Tow'd is a sandbuggy kit made by Bruce and Winnie Myers way back when. It was called that due to an integrated tow bar. It was designed to be towed.(I type tow'd sometimes out of habit. I'll stop doing that.)
'The grasshopper sandbuggy is the unauthorized copy of a Tow'd sandbuggy.

Toad is just wrong.
'my spouse is shaped like a Toad'. (this will get me in trouble. She's really 36,26,36...and that's just her head!)

Toed is what an animal with toes is.
'my basement dwelling adult son is a eleven-toed sloth'

I say this for the same reason I politely correct someone who types
'could of'
When they should have typed
'could have'
'I could of course not said anything about how I could have said nothing. '

Just a story, not a gripe, not a pet peeve.
Just a psa similar to explaining a gun magazine is not a clip. (it's actually magazine tubes that load into a magazine well, but ya gots ta stop somewhere)

Some don't know the spelling, they just read/hear we call them towed.

Of course if you have a green one or a horny one or a slothmobile, exceptions apply to the name, but not the task.

Towed is a verb, past tense of tow.
Towed is an adjective, describes a vehicle's purpose.
Toad is the noun that describes the towed vehicle.

Interesting that the use of TOAD to represent a "Dinghy" or towed vehicle raise to this level of attention but "Boondocking" which has some rather obscene or sexually oriented definitions in the Urban Dictionary receives no attention. One definition is rather perverted IMHO.

Go out to the urban dictionary and look up "Boondocking" and then come back and complain about thee use of TOAD.

People can pervert anything. I don't need to know the perversions of boondocking.

I've been on forums for decades, some not as civil as this one.

One of my forum peeves is when someone doesn't read the thread before posting their response and just restates what has already been stated a dozen times. I have been know to reply to those posts with RMPL (for Read More, Post Less).

I got a strike for that in another RV forum because the moderator interpreted the RMPL as Rubbing My P**** Laughingly.

Never even heard of that. Must be a Reddit thing.

To us, it's always been wildcatting or tule(tule is wrong. They're a specific type of Reed in marshes. Wildcat is wrong because it's simply my fil's name and that man would park anywhere.)
I don't think my spousal unit has ever heard of boondocking in association with camping. She would of course extrapolate the meaning based on context and not associate it with an urban term used by a small group of halfwits, unless of course we were dealing with those halfwits at the time.

I use it on this forum solely as a shortcut way to communicate with those who use it solely because that's all they know. Just as I would the sexual natured halfwits if it were them and not rv owners who were my audience/contemporary/source.

I only know boondocks from the early country western song and the animated series and here. I extrapolated the meaning, as used on this site, to mean among us here: an unauthorized place to park. Then I adjusted my interpretation according to additional information garnered here to mean anywhere hookups aren't.

It's pretty farfeltched to think anyone on this site would put any weight on what urban kids or prisoners use in place of real language because they can't formulate a cohesive sentence.

To some people.
RV Is remote viewing
RV is a prison term(everything is if you want it to be)
RV is retro virus to some.
RV is revised version

It had nothing with how people use a word. It has to do with a humorous attempt(which was supposed to be an attempt at humor) about how we spell the word we are using.

What I'm really sorry about is my having to go so in depth to counter someone who dug so deep into the urban dictionary to discount an attempt at a humorous spelling lesson.

A dinghy is a small boat, often one used to get from one's yacht at anchor in the harbor to shore. Can we accept the variation DINGY often used by RV owners to refer to the small vehicle towed behind their RV?

Dingy has its own meaning. Dirty; Unclean or even shabby.
Why would you want to use that instead of dinghy?

Personally, I think “toad” is correct. Its use evolved as a cute and endearing play on words. If grammar is your thing the proper term would be a “towed vehicle”. But where’s the fun in that?!

The fun is knowing it's a cute little evolutionary quirk and not the correct usage.
The fun is saying it with a smile, not typing it into a legal document or into a tirade of some sort or using it unknowledgably showing an ignorance that can be easily measured.

Using Toad is fun and I often write tow'd, and I get it. It's cute.

There is no fun in thinking Toad is correct.

Our family Vega, when I was a kid, was the mighty verga.
Cute... Wrong, nothing I'd want people to think I thought was correct.

Bob. It’s called boredom while being sheltered.
Nobody is out camping, so there are no problems we can resolve.
At least somebody is posting something so I don’t have to reread the same posts, it’s like watching a movie for the fifth time

I agree !!! Bob !
Me thinks some people have waaaaay too much time on their hands and minds.... No one has ever complained or split hairs about
toad, tow'd, towed, or vehicle being towed...until now....

Your...toad...is much cuter than most...I think ours is a close second..!!
Hoping you all are safe and well !
