TV and wifi on the road.

I have been to a few campgrounds this fall and run into some connectivity issues. Currently, though advertised as having free wifi, my campground's wifi sucks. I was told it was because I was too far away from the router/tower and there was nothing they can do. I am signed on to another campground's wifi. So my question is how does DirectTv work? Is see several motorhomes with the little satellite set up outside their MH. Can anyone tell what all is involved it this?

Satellite TV

an easy entry into this field of 'tv viewing' is to simply purchase a Dish Playmaker or similar model 'portable' antenna, and Receiver, from Camping world, or your local RV dealer, online, etc.

You simply place the portable antenna on the ground, and after connecting it to your Receiver with a coax cable, and then from the receiver to your TV with an HDMI cable, you turn the receiver on and it 'finds' the satellites, and in a few minutes you are watching tv...

oh, wait...I almost forgot...you must go to DISH, or call them, and sign up for a monthly PLAN for the channels that you want.

FUN! : ) easy.

no more cable tv at campgrounds.

As for 'campground wifi', just like many hotels of old, just because they 'advertise' it, doesn't mean it means much when you arrive.
Use your PHONE's data plan to have internet, which is what most folks are moving to.

... also, if you're interested in what the difference between DIRECT and DISH service is, there is not a whole lot, other than DISH gives travelers a LOT more options for HD(high Def) channels than DIRECT does, at least with the smaller portable antennas.
DISH also can allow you to only pay for your plan for the MONTHS you wish to have it, while traveling, rather than all the months you aren't.
